  • Patent number: 7184772
Abstract: An base station for use in a wireless network capable of communicating with mobile stations located in a coverage area of the wireless network. The base station is capable of transmitting to a first mobile station a first channel assignment message (CAM) assigning the first mobile station to a selected traffic channel during a call, wherein the base station is further capable of transmitting to the first mobile station at least a second channel assignment message assigning the first mobile station to the selected traffic channel.

  • Patent number: 7085984
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for providing an improved channel encoder in a digital data communication system. In one advantageous embodiment the invention comprises a channel encoder that comprises a first Turbo encoder, an interleaver, and a second Turbo encoder. Data from a source encoder is Turbo encoded in the first Turbo encoder, then interleaved, and then Turbo encoded in the second Turbo encoder. The data is then punctured and repeated in a symbol puncture and repetition unit. In an alternate advantageous embodiment of the invention, the first and second Turbo encoders are coupled in parallel. The data provided to one of the Turbo encoders is interleaved. The outputs of the first and second Turbo encoders are multiplexed and the result is provided to the symbol puncture and repetition unit. The invention provides low packet error rates when higher RF modulation is used.

  • Patent number: 7050809
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for providing concurrent data transmissions in a wireless communication network. The invention comprises a register unit within a base transceiver station that prepares data packets to be transmitted to mobile stations within a plurality of cell sectors. The register unit identifies the cell sector destination of each data packet in a first data call and sends the data packet to a buffer associated with the cell sector destination. The buffers store their respective data packets for each cell sector in a first subframe of a data frame. The buffers send their respective data packets within the first subframe to their respective antennas. The data packets for each cell sector are then concurrently transmitted during the first subframe. Data packets of a second data call are transmitted during the second and third subframe so that two data calls are concurrently transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20030162545
Abstract: Two radio systems are provided for each coverage area within a wireless communications system, each radio system supporting a different wireless communications standard with at least one of the standards being compatible with the other (such as the backward-compatibility of either of 1xEV-DO or 1xEV-DV with IS-2000). Both of the radio systems may have a sectored configuration for selected coverage areas while a combination of sectored and omni configurations are employed for the radio systems for other coverage areas. When communications with a mobile station utilizing one standard fails within a coverage area due to antenna, radio frequency path, or radio system failure, wireless communications with that mobile station is automatically resumed utilizing the other, compatible wireless communications standard.

  • Publication number: 20030112821
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for increasing a data transmission rate in mobile wireless communication channels. The invention comprises a base station that is capable of sending data packets to a mobile station at a first data rate and then sending replacement data packets to the mobile station at a second higher data rate to replace missing or error data packets. The mobile station comprises a replacement data packet controller that replaces missing or error data packets with replacement data packets. During a handoff of the mobile station a first base station sends an A3 physical transition directive message to a second base station to increase bandwidth on a supplemental channel for sending replacement data packets to the mobile station. The bandwidth is decreased after the mobile station receives the replacement data packets.
