  • Patent number: 5542258
Abstract: A refrigerator includes a freezing compartment and refrigerating compartment. Dew prevention heaters are provided for the respective compartments. The dew prevention heater for the freezing compartment cannot be activated if the freezer temperature is above 0.degree. C., but it can be activated if that temperature is below 0.degree. C. as follows: if the compressor is on, then the heater is always on; and if the compressor is off, then the heater will cycle on and off at a frequency dependent upon the magnitude of the temperature outside of the refrigerator. The activation of the dew prevention heater for the refrigerating compartment is independent of the temperature of the refrigerating compartment. Rather, that heater is "off" if the compressor is "off", and if the compressor is "on", the heater will cycle on and off at a frequency dependent upon the temperature outside of the refrigerator.

  • Patent number: 5421247
Abstract: A refrigerator includes a fermentation compartment having a heater and a cooler. A food container is inserted into the compartment for fermenting food. The container includes a power source, a detector, and a radio transmitter. The detector detects fermentation conditions within the container. That detected information transmitted by the transmitter as radio signals which are received by a controller of the refrigerator which controls the temperature in the fermentation compartment in accordance with the received information. If the power source in the container becomes insufficiently charged, an indicator lamp on the refrigerator is energized.

  • Patent number: 5398251
Abstract: The self-diagnostic system for refrigerator appliance controlled by the following routine steps in a control program: a reset routine for designating input and output ports and clearing all memories upon powering up, and thereafter storing initial value into a desired memory; a timer interrupt routine for being periodically carried out every time set by the reset routine and storing an elapsed time in a selected memory; an initial display subroutine for turning on all lamps, then turning off a shut-off display lamp in a predetermined time set by the timer interrupt routine, automatically turning on a normal state display lamp and an alarm lamp, and driving a compressor in order to actuate a refrigerator; a main routine for determining whether time cycle set by said timer interrupt routine has been set and executing a plurality of routines detecting malfunction of the appliances and alerting the user to the occurrence of the malfunction.

  • Patent number: 5228300
Abstract: An automatic operation control method automatically controls the temperature setting of a chamber, the defrost cycling and the operation of a compressor and a fan motor according to the door open/close frequency and open time. The defrost cycling is operated during a predetermined time period or an auxiliary time period according to the usage frequency of a refrigerator and the door open time before entering into the defrost cycle while being started after dropping the chamber temperature according to the current state of a temperature adjuster and the average value of the chamber temperature. The operation of a compressor and a fan motor is retarded to prevent the chamber temperature from increasing after the completion of the defrost cycling, thereby minimizing the temperature change of the chamber to protect the stored food.

  • Patent number: 4958055
Abstract: A control circuit for a refrigerator combined with a microwave oven includes signal delay selecting and comparing circuitry start sensing circuitry timer circuitry and load driving circuitry in order to properly control operations of the refrigerator and the microwave oven. The control circuit eliminates unnecessary delay time of the operation of the microwave oven during operation of the refrigerator, and makes the refrigerator operate after start-up of the microwave oven is completed.
