Abstract: A backlight assembly which can reduce manufacturing costs and enhance display quality of a liquid crystal display (“LCD”). The backlight assembly includes: a light source emitting light; and a light guide plate (“LGP”) including an incident surface on which light emitted from the light source is incident, a top surface which adjoins the incident surface, and a bottom surface which adjoins the incident surface, faces the top surface, and includes a plurality of lower prisms separated from one another and flat portions interposed between the lower prisms, wherein each of the lower prisms includes a first surface and a second surface which are adjacent to each other, the first surface including a plurality of oblique planes having different positive slopes, the second surface having a negative slope, and where the slope forms an angle with a line normal to the incident surface.
