    Abstract: A method and apparatus for user authentication using infrared communication of a mobile terminal is disclosed. The user authentication system, which is for identifying a user who requests service from an automated machine, comprises a mobile terminal for transmitting electronic signature data for the user in the form of an infrared signal, automated information providing means for providing the requested service after verifying the validity of the electronic signature data, and certificate providing means for registering an authorization certificate in response to a request from the mobile terminal and transmitting the certificate to the automated information providing means for verifying the user authentication.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are a battery pack for a mobile communication terminal, which enables non-contact NFC with the outside through an NFC unit, and an NFC method using the battery pack. The battery -pack for a mobile communication terminal includes an NFC unit, a smart card unit and an antenna. The NFC unit communicates with a mobile communication terminal body and communicates with the outside via non-contact NFC. The smart card unit communicates with the NFC unit. The antenna is configured such that the NFC unit transmits/receives signals via non-contact NFC through the antenna. Accordingly, the characteristics of analog signals transmitted/received through the antenna are prevented from being changed despite the frequent attachment and detachment of the battery pack of the mobile communication terminal.

    Abstract: A secure NFC apparatus includes a plug-in socket, an NFC unit, and a protocol matching unit. A security module is inserted in the plug-in socket. The NFC unit communicates with the outside via non-contact NFC using signals based on an S2C protocol. The protocol matching unit determines the type of chip in the inserted security module, generates a chip identification signal according to results of the identification, and matches the protocol of the signals based on the S2C protocol, which are input to and output from the NFC unit, with the protocol of the signals, which are input to and output from the security module, according to the chip identification signal.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are a secure Near Field Communication (NFC) apparatus and method for supporting various security modules. The NFC apparatus includes an NFC unit, a protocol conversion unit and a security module. The NFC unit transmits information corresponding to a first signal based on a first protocol via non-contact NFC and generates a second signal based on the first protocol from information received via non-contact NFC. The protocol conversion unit converts a signal based on a second protocol into a first signal based on the first protocol and converts the second signal based on the first protocol into a signal based on the second protocol. The security module receives and outputs signals based on the second protocol.
