  • Patent number: 8031167
Abstract: A method and circuit for controlling the brightness of a backlight in a display device. The circuit comprises a backlight brightness selecting block that measures the brightness of ambient light and selects brightness information of the backlight based on the measured brightness of the ambient light. An image processing block performs image processing on received image signal based on the measured brightness of the ambient light, and calculates an image processing gain of the received image signal based on the result of image processing and the received image signal. A backlight adjusting unit controls the brightness of the backlight based on the selected backlight brightness information and the image processing gain.

  • Publication number: 20110199397
Abstract: Provided are a method of driving a liquid crystal panel which prevents unintended digital image data from being displayed on a liquid crystal panel when power is provided or interrupted, and a source driver and a liquid crystal display apparatus. The source driver includes output buffers; output pads; and a switching unit which is disposed between the output buffers and the output pads and controls an electrical connection state of the output pads. If a level up or a level down of a power voltage occurs, the switching unit prevents output signals of the output buffers from being transmitted to the liquid crystal panel via corresponding output pads and performs at least one of a charge sharing operation for connecting the output pads to each other and a discharging operation for providing a discharge path from the output pads to a ground terminal, in a preset period.

  • Patent number: 7557633
Abstract: A high speed analog transmission envelope (data-validity) detector for detecting the validity or invalidity of received data by generating (and comparing) first through fourth level-shifted signals based on a pair of differential input signals that are externally applied (received). Each of the first through fourth level-shifted signals has voltage levels different from (e.g., higher than) the differential input signals. After comparing the first through fourth level-shifted signals with each other, the comparison results are used in determining the validity of the differential input signals (data). The analog transmission envelope (data) detector flexibly adapts to variations in common mode voltage, and simplifies the circuit architecture because it does not require an additional reference voltage for determining the validity of received data.

  • Patent number: 7504612
Abstract: An ambient light processing system for controlling a display device by sensing ambient light and a method using the system. The ambient light processing system includes a photo-detector, an amplification unit, an analog-to-digital converter and a controller. The photo-detector outputs a sensed signal corresponding to the luminous intensity of the ambient light. The amplification unit amplifies the sensed signal with a high amplification factor to output a first amplified signal and amplifies the sensed signal with a low amplification factor to output a second amplified signal. The analog-to-digital converter respectively converts the first amplified signal and the second amplified signal into a first digital signal and a second digital signal. The controller outputs a first control signal and a second control signal for controlling the display device in response to the first digital signal and the second digital signal.
