Patent number: 7414981Abstract: A system and method is provided for higher-level service intelligence to cooperatively interoperate via a common session control and uniformly control and coordinate at least one transport resource provided by a communication network service provider. Including in the system is at least one association controller (AC) which is connectable to one or more communications networks so as to communicate with a systems entity located therein. In particular, the AC is configured to dynamically receive event registration list (ERL) which include a listing of events, wherein the list is received through an interactive exchange with an integrated services controller (ISC) associated with the particular AC. Receipt of the list registers one or more events for communications services which have a notification interest in the particular event.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2002Date of Patent: August 19, 2008Assignee: Qwest Communications International, Inc.Inventors: Paul Daniel Jaramillo, Jafar S. Nabkel, Ronald J. Egan

Patent number: 6178231Abstract: A method and system for generating a predetermined message during selected calls-in-progress utilizes a communication station to detect a connection being attempted between a subscriber telephony device and a second telephony device. An adjunct processor determines whether the connection between the subscriber telephony device and the second telephony device requires call-attendant monitoring and if so, monitors the connection between the subscriber telephony device and the second telephony device to identify a predetermined event. An intelligent peripheral unit generates the predetermined message based on the predetermined event and a subscriber profile associated with the subscriber telephony device.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1997Date of Patent: January 23, 2001Assignees: Qwest Communications International Inc., MediaOne Group, Inc.Inventor: Jafar S. Nabkel

Patent number: 6141328Abstract: A communication system and method for a communication network is provided. The communication system and method allow a calling party and a called party to engage in a two-way negotiated call hold. The two-way call hold enables the calling party, placed on hold by a called party, to disconnect the call and be placed in a queue. The calling party is then notified when a selected position in the queue has been reached and the call between the calling party and the called party is then reconnected at the expense of the calling party. The calling party may monitor its position in the queue before the selected position has been reached.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1997Date of Patent: October 31, 2000Assignees: Qwest Communications International Inc., MediaOne Group, Inc.Inventors: Jafar S. Nabkel, Gregory W. Bruening

Patent number: 6011845Abstract: A partitioned communication system includes a shared switch network system in communication with an Intelligent Network Processor (INP). A terminating intelligent communication device (ICD) located outside the management and control of the shared network operates as an Originating Communication System (OCS) to negotiate 2-way call holding with a Called Communication System (CCS).Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1997Date of Patent: January 4, 2000Assignees: US West, Inc., MediaOne Group, Inc.Inventors: Jafar S. Patent number: 6009163Abstract: A method and system for regulating the flow of calls in a communications network. At least one calling area is assigned to each call response center of each service provider. Call regulating functionality is provided in communication with each call response center of each service provider and includes a set of parameters assigned to each calling area served by the call response center as well as a corresponding call regulating algorithm for the assigned calling areas. The call regulating functionality is operative to detect a call from a calling party to a service provider, determine the assigned calling area of the calling party for that service provider, determine the call response center and determine the current values of the assigned parameters for the calling areas assigned to the call response center.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1997Date of Patent: December 28, 1999Assignees: U S West, Inc., MediaOne Group, Inc.Inventors: Jafar S. Nabkel, Patrick M. Cuddihy, Gregory W. Bruening

Patent number: 5999613Abstract: A method and system for processing an incoming call during a call-in-progress utilizes a communication station for detecting the incoming call from a new caller to a subscriber telephony device. The communication station determines whether the subscriber telephony device is busy on a call with a first telephony device. An adjunct processor then determines interruption information about the first telephony device which identifies whether or not the call-in-progress with the first telephony device can be interrupted. The adjunct processor then generates a corresponding signal for receipt by the communication station based on whether or not the call-in-progress with the first telephony device can be interrupted by the new caller.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1997Date of Patent: December 7, 1999Assignees: U. S. West, Inc., MediaOne Group, Inc.Inventors: Jafar S. Nabkel, Adam N. Marx

Patent number: 5963626Abstract: A method and system for generating and posting a message to callers based on a caller's identity includes a communication station for determining whether a calling party is attempting to connect with the subscriber. An adjunct processor determines an identity of the calling party based on the calling party's calling number and optional personal identification number (PIN). An intelligent peripheral unit generates a voice or textual message for receipt by the calling party based on the identity of the calling party according to instructions provided by the adjunct processor. Each message may be received by one or more callers, i.e. individuals or groups.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1997Date of Patent: October 5, 1999Assignees: US West, Inc., MediaOne Group, Inc.Inventor: Jafar S. Nabkel
