  • Publication number: 20240049139
Abstract: A wireless communication device (100) and method therein for movement detection are disclosed. The wireless communication device comprises at least a modem (110) and an operating system (120). The wireless communication device (100) estimates by the modem (110) a relative movement of the wireless communication device. If the estimated relative movement is larger than a threshold, the modem (110) sends a movement notification to the operating system (120). The operating system (120) decides which action to be taken for the wireless communication device.

  • Publication number: 20220278722
Abstract: Beamforming characteristics determined for a master RAT are reused to form the beam(s) for a different, secondary RAT when communications using the second RAT becomes desirable, e.g., during handover or for dual connectivity scenarios, when an antenna arrangement for the first RAT is close enough to the antenna arrangement for the second RAT. When these antenna arrangements are “close enough,” the assumption is that the beamforming characteristics for the first RAT are a reasonable approximation of the beamforming characteristics that would be determined for the second RAT. By reusing the beamforming characteristics, the solution presented herein provides the efficiency and directionality provided by dynamic beamforming while avoiding the delay typically associated with traditional beamforming solutions.

  • Patent number: 11228355
Abstract: The solution presented herein improves the power consumption of an antenna array, such as used in beamforming systems, based on the antenna weights of the one or more antenna elements of the subarrays of the antenna array. To that end, a transmitter node comprising the antenna array determines whether the antenna weights of each subarray satisfy a threshold condition. If the weights satisfy the threshold condition, the transmitter node disables the corresponding power amplifier.

  • Patent number: 11196463
Abstract: A wireless communication apparatus (10) uses a RADAR or LIDAR assembly to scan for obstructions in predefined beam directions relative to a directional antenna (40) and correspondingly classifies each direction as obstructed or unobstructed. Then, at least for communication signal frequencies above a defined frequency threshold, the apparatus (10) configures beamforming at the directional antenna (40) to prioritize beams corresponding to the unobstructed directions, or avoid beams corresponding to the obstructed directions. The beam prioritization or avoidance applies to transmit beamforming, receive beamforming, or both. In one or more implementations, the direction classifications may not be binary. For example, detected obstruction distances along the beam directions may be used to “grade” the respective directions in terms of usage priority, beam adaptations, and/or restrictions on the communication frequencies used.

  • Patent number: 9425910
Abstract: Processing of public warning notifications in a mobile communication terminal is disclosed, the terminal being camped on a cell belonging to a first public land mobile network, PLMN. A first warning notification is received, and information contained in the first warning notification is provided to a user of the mobile communication terminal. Radio reception conditions are analyzed and, depending on results of the analysis of radio reception conditions, a secondary public warning notification, SN, is received from a second PLMN. Information contained in the SN is then provided to the user of the mobile communication terminal.
