  • Patent number: 7709692
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the selective production of para-diethyl benzene from a mixed aromatic feedstock containing ethyl benzene and at least one other aromatic compound selected from benzene, alkylated benzene having alkyl group with carbon number 1 to 6, mono-alkyl aromatics, dialkyl aromatics, trialkyl aromatics, tetraalkyl aromatics, pentaalkyl aromatics, hexaalkyl aromatics, containing side chains having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and any mixtures thereof, the process comprising of (a) alkylating the feedstock under alkylating conditions, over a selectivated metallosilicate composite catalyst; and (b) recovering a product stream containing at least 95 wt % para-diethyl benzene, the product stream being substantially free from other isomers of diethylbenzene, C8 aromatics, C9 aromatics, C10+ heavy aromatics other than diethyl benzene isomers, sulphur, halogen, olefinic compound and carbonyl compounds.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 7094941
Abstract: A repeated “soak and dry” selectivation process for preparing a modified metallosilicate catalyst composite is disclosed comprising of a mixture of amorphous silica, alumina and a pore size controlled metallosilicate useful for alkylaromatic conversion. The process comprises (a) contacting an intermediate pore metallosilicate with an organosilicon compound in a solvent for a specific duration and then recovering the solvent, (b) combining the organosilicon compound treated metallosilicate with water and then drying the catalyst, (c), repeating the steps a) and b) above and (d) calcining the catalyst in an oxygen containing atmosphere sufficient to remove the organic material and deposit siliceous matter on the metallosilicate. In a another embodiment, when the organosilicon compound is water soluble, step (b) may be avoided.

  • Patent number: 5811613
Abstract: A selective, simple and efficient process for single step alkylation of ethylbenzene with ethanol, in the presence of catalytically effective amount of pore size controlled and preconditioned gallo aluminosilicate zeolite is disclosed. The process comprises subjecting a feed mixture of ethylbenzene, ethanol and optionally one or more of the reaction product/byproduct in contact with the catalyst under a chosen set of conditions. The product para-diethylbenzene can be recovered directly from the reactor effluent, by simple distillation, avoiding complicated separation processes, with a high purity sufficient for commercial application.
