    Abstract: An air purifier includes a bell-mouth having an enhanced structure to prevent an increase of noise at a particular frequency when air flows into the blowing fan through the bell-mouth. The air purifier includes a housing, a filter unit and a blowing fan placed inside the housing, and a bell-mouth placed toward an intake side of the blowing fan. The bell-mouth includes an inlet port formed at a center of the bell-mouth, a flow guide extending from a periphery of the inlet port toward the blowing fan, and a flat section positioned to discontinue the flow guide to increase a distance between the blowing fan and the bell-mouth. The flat section is formed at the section in the range of about 240°˜330° with respect to a starting point of a scroll inside the bell-mouth. The flat section may have a saw-tooth shape to effectively distribute air passing therethrough.

A plurality of return pipes connect upper headers of neighboring heat exchanging units to transmit refrigerant between the neighboring heat exchanging units.

    Abstract: A turbo fan including backward-inclined blades that are inclined in a direction opposite to a rotating direction of a rotating plate. A positive pressure surface of each blade, facing the rotating direction of the rotating plate, takes the form of a flat surface, and a negative pressure surface of the blade, opposite to the rotating direction of the rotating plate, takes the form of a convexly-curved surface. A radius of curvature defined by the convexly-curved negative pressure surface is within a range of 2.5˜4 times of a radius of the turbo fan. The turbo fan can reduce noise and consumption of power together, and consequently, an air conditioner having the turbo fan can achieve an improvement in performance.

    Abstract: An air purifier and a control method thereof. The air purifier includes a main body having an air inlet and an air outlet, a fan mounted in the main body, rotational speed of which is changed according to a user-desired air flow rate, cyclones disposed in parallel with each other under the fan, at least one open/close unit to open and close at least one of the cyclones. The open/close unit may include a valve member to open and close an outflow pipe of the cyclone, and a stepping motor to rotate the valve member. An anemometer is mounted to at least one of the cyclones. Accordingly, since the air purifier can measure a speed of air flow in the cyclone and correspondingly change the operating number of the dust-collecting cyclones in an open state, the air purifier can achieve a predetermined dust-collecting performance even when the speed of the air flow in the cyclone is reduced.

    Abstract: An air conditioner and a method of controlling the air conditioner includes a variable capacity compressor being operated at a maximum capacity in a case of starting an operation of the compressor after an extended stoppage for a lengthy period of time longer than a preset reference time, thus increasing a flow rate of a circulated refrigerant during an initial stage of the operation and increasing a quantity of heat generated from the motor of the compressor to vaporize and forcibly discharge a remaining liquid refrigerant from the compressor during the initial stage. Therefore, the variable capacity compressor of the air conditioner does not require heaters conventionally used for heating the refrigerant during such a stoppage, and so easy designing and production of the compressor is achieved, in addition to a reduction in a production cost of the air conditioner. This air conditioner also accomplishes a reduction in a maintenance cost thereof.
