  • Patent number: 10690031
Abstract: A method for treating exhaust gas emitted by an internal combustion engine (ICE) in a hybrid architected motor vehicle with an electric motor. The method includes disposing a heater in the exhaust, disposing a first Lean NOx Trap (LNT) downstream of the heater, disposing a second LNT downstream of the first LNT, disposing a passive selective catalytic reduction (SCR) downstream of the second LNT, disposing a hydrocarbon oxidation catalyst downstream of the SCR. The method also includes connecting a controller to the heater, the controller executes a method of controlling the NOx emissions of the ICE, the method includes monitoring a torque demand for the vehicle, determining if the torque demand is large enough to cause the ICE to generate excessive NOx, operating the ICE at a torque less than the torque demand, and operating the motor with the ICE to provide sufficient torque to satisfy the torque demand.

  • Publication number: 20190376426
Abstract: An after-treatment system includes a selective catalyst reduction on filter (SCRF) device in communication with exhaust gases from an engine yielding treated exhaust gases. A nitrogen oxides (NOx) sensor is configured to measure the treated exhaust gases and has an output signal that is NOx and ammonia (NH3) cross-sensitive. A NOx sensor model is coupled to receive the output signal and mass flow data for the treated exhaust gases and provides a NOx model signal to an electronic control unit (ECU) that is operatively associated with the after-treatment system and the engine. The NOx model signal represents an exhaust gas NOx concentration estimate based upon an actual NOx concentration and an actual NH3 concentration of the exhaust gas. The ECU is operable upon the NOx concentration estimate to control the after-treatment system and the engine to effect an overall reduction in actual NOx concentration of the treated exhaust gases.

  • Publication number: 20190228367
Abstract: A system for generating and matching profiles of people for ride sharing comprises a processor to process physiological data of users collected by sensors in the vehicles, driving data collected by sensors in the vehicles, and lifestyle data of the users. The processor generates user profiles based on the physiological, driving, and lifestyle data. The user profiles include correlations between the data and stress levels of the users during the use of the vehicles. A network interface receives the physiological, driving, and lifestyle data from the vehicles; receives a request from a first user to share a ride in a vehicle; receives information from the processor about a second user having a user profile compatible to the first user; and sends a response to the first user including the information about the second user to allow the first user to share the ride in the vehicle with the second user.

  • Patent number: 10138780
Abstract: A method is disclosed for operating an automotive system having an internal combustion engine equipped with an exhaust gas aftertreatment system including a Lean NOx Trap (LNT) upstream of a Selective Catalytic Reduction washcoated particulate filter (SCRF). A LNT inlet temperature is monitored. A parameter representative of a quantity of NOX stored in the LNT is also monitored. A map correlating the LNT inlet temperature and the quantity of NOX stored in the LNT is used to estimate an ammonia quantity produced during a LNT regeneration. A LNT regeneration is performed, if the estimated ammonia quantity is greater than a threshold value thereof.
