  • Patent number: 10997423
Abstract: A surveillance system includes a lower definition video camera and a higher definition video camera. The higher definition video is not recorded, generally, but video produced by the lower definition video camera is processed and compared to predefined videographic patterns to determine whether one or more events corresponding to the predefined videographic patterns has occurred. Likewise, inputs from other sources, such as audio, can be evaluated to determine if any predefined events have occurred. Upon determining that a predefined or triggering event has occurred, then video from the higher definition camera is recorded.

  • Publication number: 20070255786
Abstract: The invention concerns a method (200) and system (100) for managing meetings using group calling. The method can include the steps of detecting (212) one or more meeting participants for a meeting, comparing (214) the detected meeting participants with a listing of scheduled meeting participants and generating (216) a dynamic group calling list that at least includes those scheduled meeting participants who have not been detected. As an example, the dynamic group calling list can be generated on a mobile communications device (122) of one of the detected meeting participants. The method can also include the step of simultaneously contacting (218) from the mobile communications device the scheduled meeting participants on the dynamic group calling list who have not been detected.

  • Patent number: 7136680
Abstract: A portable wireless transceiver (104) includes a receiver (206) for monitoring transmissions from neighboring transceivers (106A and 106B) to select a transceiver to use for communications. The portable wireless transceiver (104) further has a motion detector (204) for determining whether or not the portable wireless transceiver (104) is moving. If the portable wireless transceiver (104) is determined to not be moving, a processor (202) alters a schedule for monitoring of neighboring transceivers (106A and 106B) so that the monitoring is performed less frequently, thereby reducing power consumption by the portable wireless transceiver (104).

  • Publication number: 20060046779
Abstract: A mobile communication device is provided with an electrical interface in a battery compartment (204) of the mobile communication device. The interface is provided by a flexible circuit member (106) disposed on a radiation shield (100), which is mounted on a circuit board (14) of the mobile communication device. The flexible circuit member and shield are accessible through an opening (206) in the back surface (210) of the battery compartment. Initially the mobile communication device is provided with a label (214) concealing the electrical interface. The label may be removed later so that a battery accessory module (600) may replace a standard battery (502). An accessory circuit (808) in the battery accessory module connects to the mobile communication device through the interface, and provides additional functionality to the mobile communication device.

  • Publication number: 20050130713
Abstract: A communication unit (10) can have at least a first receiver (11) and a second receiver (12). The latter typically consumes more power than the former during ordinary operation. Pursuant to one embodiment a communication unit can use the lower-power receiver to detect energy on a monitored channel while the second receiver is retained in a reduced power mode of operation. Upon detecting an absence of channel activity the second receiver can be restored to normal operability to effect such activities as are then presently required.

  • Publication number: 20050046580
Abstract: A portable communication device (10) includes a transceiver (12 and 14), an acceleration sensor (20) coupled to the transceiver, and a processor (16) coupled to the acceleration sensor. The processor is programmed to monitor (32) an acceleration profile of the portable communication device and compare (48 and 52) the acceleration profile of the portable communication device with at least one pre-stored acceleration profile (18).

  • Patent number: 5557743
Abstract: Electronic devices using microprocessors requiring additional external memory can have security protection for the microprocessors while in an expanded mode of operation. A microprocessor having a security access circuit allows executable code to be stored in a peripheral storage device, such as external EPROM, while maintaining protection to the microprocessor EEPROM by monitoring if an instruction code is generated from an internal memory source or an external memory source.
