  • Patent number: 10472663
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the rapid evaluation of bacterial susceptibility or non-susceptibility of bacteria to antibiotics that inhibit protein synthesis. The rationale is to identify bacterial responses that depend or are influenced by protein synthesis. If this response is prevented or reduced by the antibiotic that inhibits the protein synthesis, the bacteria are susceptible to this antibiotic. Otherwise, if the response keeps similar despite the incubation with the antibiotic, the bacteria are not susceptible or resistant to this antibiotic. These responses could be determined at the DNA lev-el, cell wall level, morphological level or any other experimental approach, including metabolic, bio-chemical, physiological or genetic processes.

  • Patent number: 9976170
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for evaluating the integrity of the cell wall of the bacteria present in a culture in the presence of an antibiotic acting on the bacterial cell wall which, from a practical point of view, allows quickly determining if a bacterium is sensitive or resistant to an antibiotic acting on the bacterial cell wall. Likewise, the present invention also relates to a lysis solution applicable in the preceding method, specifically affecting bacteria having the cell wall damaged by the action of an antibiotic acting on the bacterial cell wall, which allows distinguishing bacteria sensitive to said antibiotic from those resistant to said antibiotic.

  • Patent number: 9212391
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for determining the DNA integrity in microorganisms and a kit for evaluating the DNA integrity therein. Due to the fact that cell death means DNA fragmentation, with the present process the DNA fragmentation levels in microorganisms can be clearly discriminated in a simple, quick and accurate manner.

  • Patent number: 7993827
Abstract: The present invention describes a method for the determination of DNA fragmentation in animal sperm. It particularly refers to a procedure to evaluate the integrity of the chromatin/DNA of the sperm by means of a treatment of the sample with a denaturing solution followed, optionally by a stain; a subsequent treatment with a lysis solution that does not contain a protein denaturing detergent, followed, optionally, by a stain; and an evaluation of the integrity of the chromatin/DNA. The present invention also refers to a Kit to evaluate the quality of the sperm of animals which includes a DNA denaturing solution and a lysis solution that does not contain a protein denaturing detergent.
