    Abstract: Now, according to the present invention, functional coatings are provided that comprise both a porous inorganic layer and a polymeric filler. The porous inorganic layer comprises an inorganic material that can be formed into a layer at relatively low heat load. The polymeric filler fills the porosities in the porous inorganic layer, and can be, for example, wet coated onto the porous inorganic layer. The resulting functional coatings offer simpler and cheaper fabrication along with improved physical and optical performance.

    Abstract: An enhanced wireless network system including a visible-light transparent, transmission shielding component for application to or incorporation in windows to create a shielded wireless network operation area. The shielding component enhances network performance by substantially reducing extraneous electromagnetic interference and enhances network security by substantially containing electromagnetic transmissions to desired areas. The shielding component may comprise several alternating layers of metal, to substantially attenuate transmissions to varying degrees, including attenuation of 20 to 50 db in the 1 MHz to 100 GHz range and beyond, while simultaneously permitting substantial transmission of visible light (such as 15-55%).

    Abstract: A plasma source includes a structure made up of two hollow cathode shapes connected to a bipolar AC power supply. The bipolar power supply alternately drives one hollow cathode to a negative voltage while the opposite hollow cathode is driven to a positive voltage. As one of the two hollow cathode shapes is driven negative, the hollow cathode discharge forms within the corresponding cavity. The other cathode then forms an anode, causing electrons to escape the plasma and travel to the other side, completing the electric circuit. The plasma generator thus formed may be used as a heat source for an effusion cell to form a plasma from a reactant gas, or to increase the reactivity of gas situated between a vacuum deposition source and a substrate to be coated.
