Patent number: 10628711Abstract: One disclosed example provides a method for determining a pose of a handheld object in a surrounding environment. Optical pose data is stored in an image queue of a first filter. IMU data is received from an IMU of the handheld object and stored in an IMU queue of the first filter. Using at least a portion of the optical pose data and the IMU data, an initial pose of the handheld object is determined and outputted. The method determines that either the image queue or the IMU queue is empty. A second filter comprising the one empty queue and the other non-empty queue is instantiated as a copy of the first filter. Using the data from the non-empty queue in the second filter, the initial pose of the handheld object is updated to an updated pose, and the updated pose is outputted.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2018Date of Patent: April 21, 2020Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Alexandru Octavian Balan, Ruven Jaime Rivera, III, Michael Edward Samples, Ivan Razumenic

Patent number: 10503247Abstract: One disclosed example provides a head-mounted device including a stereo camera arrangement, a logic device configured to execute instructions, and a storage device storing instructions executable by the logic device to, for each camera in the stereo camera arrangement, receive image data of a field of view of the camera, detect light sources of a handheld object in the image data, and based upon the light sources detected, determine a pose of the handheld object. The instructions are executable to, based upon the pose of the handheld object determined for each camera in the stereo camera arrangement, calibrate the stereo camera arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2017Date of Patent: December 10, 2019Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Michael Edward Samples, Alexandru Octavian Balan, Salim Sirtkaya, Vuk Jovanovic, Filip Panjevic, Taras Khapko, Ruven Jaime Rivera, III

Patent number: 8284071Abstract: An assembly (20) for controlling movement of an automatically moveable door panel (22) includes a sensor (30, 32, 34) positioned on at least one of a door panel (22) or a door frame member (24, 26). The sensitive portion provides an indication of when an object is in contact with or in very close proximity to a sensitive portion. A sensitive portion is established over an area of the door or door frame member at which an object may become caught during automated door movement. A disclosed example includes using an electromechanical film as a sensor so that the sensitive portion is responsive to pressure applied by the object on the sensitive portion. Another disclosed example includes a field effect sensor that generates an electric field that is at least partially interrupted when an object contacts or comes in very close proximity to the sensitive portion.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2006Date of Patent: October 9, 2012Assignee: Otis Elevator CompanyInventors: Pei-Yuan Peng, Jaime A. Rivera, Atsushi Yamada, Takashi Saiki

Patent number: 6419231Abstract: The present invention discloses a game for helping children to learn the alphabet. The game includes multiple game boards 10 with 9-3 letter words 15 thereon presented in a 3×3 matrix which game boards are given to each player. A designated player reads a vocabulary card 60 from a deck of randomly shuffled cards 60 which contain the three-letter words 15 shown on the game boards 10. If a player's game board 10 contains the word 15 read form the vocabulary card 60, the player places a token 80 over that word. The first player to get three tokens 80 in a row, either vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, wins the game.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2000Date of Patent: July 16, 2002Inventor: Jaime Rivera
