  • Patent number: 9078112
Abstract: A communication device and method for facilitating call back from a communication device with multiple subscriber identities comprising at least a first subscriber identity and a second subscriber identity. The method comprises receiving a telephone call on a first subscription associated with the first subscriber identity from another communication device. The method also comprises determining an order of prioritization among the subscriber identities according to at least one parameter for establishing the telephone call with the other communication device on the subscription associated with the respective subscriber identities. In further addition, the method comprises facilitating call back to the other communication device using the second subscriber identity when it is determined that the second subscriber identity is more prioritized than the first subscriber identity.

  • Patent number: 8799698
Abstract: A clock signal for electronic circuitry is generated by generating, based on which one of a plurality of application use cases is presently active, a first signal that indicates a first selected one of a plurality of clock signal operating points. Based on the electronic circuitry's present speed requirement, a second signal is generated that indicates a second selected one of the clock signal operating points. For any given one of the application use cases, the speed requirement need not remain constant for the duration of the application use case. Based on whichever one of the first and second signals is associated with a higher clock frequency operating point, a third signal is generated that indicates which clock signal operating point (and possibly what voltage level) should be active. The third signal controls generation of a clock (and possibly also voltage level).

  • Publication number: 20140169216
Abstract: A communication device and method configured for multiple subscriber identities, comprising a first subscriber identity associated with a first modem having a first capability, being a primary subscriber identity, used by the communication device for communication, and at least a second subscriber identity associated with a second modem having a second capability, being a secondary subscriber identity. The method aims at adjusting the capabilities of the modems, and the method comprises acquiring an indication to adjust capabilities of the modems. Further, the method comprises re-registering the first modem, thereby releasing capacity of the first modem. In addition, the method comprises re-registering the second modem, thereby increasing capacity of the second modem.

  • Patent number: 7542443
Abstract: Keeping track of potential receive window positions in a communication system can prevent the receive window from moving from the proper potential positions, thereby reducing the probability of incorrect positions of the receive window. For example, a receive window can be updated by comparing the block number of a received block to a receive window; if the block number of the received block is outside the receive window, discarding the received block; if the block number of the received block is inside the receive window, retaining the received block; and determining an updated receive window that has a reduced size that excludes received blocks having block numbers that are not permitted according to the sequence of block numbers.

  • Publication number: 20050251721
Abstract: The invention relates to incremental redundancy operation, and a basic idea of the invention is to provide an extended acknowledgment feedback, for each of a number of data blocks, from the receiving side to the transmitting side to enable indication whether any soft information associated with at least one sub-block of the data block has been stored in memory at the receiving side. This information helps the transmitter to select which of the data blocks that may be suitable to retransmit next. For example, by first retransmitting data blocks for which one or more sub-blocks are already stored in the receiver memory, the probability of successful decoding of these data blocks increases, and thus the corresponding sub-blocks can be removed from memory, allowing room for sub-blocks of new data blocks. This significantly improves the utilization of the memory on the receiving side, increases throughput and reduces delay.

  • Publication number: 20050249296
Abstract: The invention is based on the recognition that optimal or at least improved performance can be obtained by providing relevant information that enables selection of which sub-block to set forth for transmission from the transmitting side to the receiving side. The idea according to the invention is to measure, for at least one data block, the reception quality of a number of received sub-blocks, and select which sub-block to set forth for transmission from the transmitting side based on the measured sub-block reception quality. For example, when all or several sub-blocks of a given data block have been received but the data block can still not be successfully decoded, it would normally be best to retransmit the sub-block that has the lowest quality. This generally increases the probability of successful decoding of the data block, thus increasing the throughput and reducing the delay.

  • Patent number: 6898239
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus and method of detecting a sequence of information symbols from a first signal subjected to inter-symbol interference. The method is performed as one or more signal processing paths are each being adapted to setting each symbol in the sequence to a value. When an uncertain decision has been taken in a given signal processing path, the signal processing path is divided into two. After setting a number of symbols, the sequence of information symbols is selected. The threshold used to determine whether a symbol is certain or not is adjusted in accordance with an estimate of the noise. The number of symbol errors when detecting a signal subjected to inter-symbol interference, e.g. in a mobile station, is reduced, and therefore the performance of the receiver is improved. Since unnecessary calculations are minimized, computational complexity is reduced which, in turn, reduces the power consumption.

  • Patent number: 6768441
Abstract: Methods of receiving communications signals can include generating a received analog signal including energy corresponding to communications transmitted from a remote transmitter, and performing an analog-to-digital conversion of the received analog signal to provide a received digital signal. The received digital signal can be digitally filtered using a first digital filter having a first bandwidth to provide a first filtered digital signal, and the first filtered digital signal can be processed to provide an estimate of the communications transmitted from the remote transmitter. The received digital signal can be digitally filtered using a second digital filter having a second bandwidth to provide a second filtered digital signal wherein the second bandwidth is greater than the first bandwidth, and a signal characteristic of the second filtered digital signal can be measured. Related receivers are also discussed.

  • Patent number: 6742158
Abstract: Method and apparatus for decoding a convolutionally encoded sequence of bits encoded by an encoder with given generator polynomial. The encoded sequence of bits is decoded by a decoder which comprises an inverted given generator polynomial. The decoder is particularly designed for encoders having a code rate 1, including encoders utilized in EDGE/EGPRS communications systems. The decoder is less complex than Viterbi decoders, and is faster and requires less memory than Viterbi decoders.

  • Publication number: 20020173286
Abstract: A method and apparatus for acquiring time synchronization to a received signal are described. First, a burst of data which includes a known sequence is received. This received signal is processed using a plurality of different synchronization techniques. Each synchronization technique can be paired with a corresponding channel estimation technique, which pairing is predetermined to be optimized for particular channel conditions. A processor or model validation unit selects the channel estimate associated with the channel conditions currently being experienced by the radio signal.
