  • Patent number: 8743765
Abstract: Method, apparatus, and computer program product embodiments are disclosed to enable power save modes of operation between mobile wireless devices for direct data transfer in an infrastructure BSS. An example embodiment inserts in a message that is transmitted by the transmitting mobile wireless device, a specified time when a next active direct data transfer period will start so that the devices can remain in power save mode in a direct data transfer link until that time. Then, when the next active direct data transfer period is about to start, the receiving device sends a trigger signal based on the specified time, the trigger signal indicating that the next period is about to start. This confirms to the transmitting device that the receiving device has awakened, so that the transmitting device may start transmitting the data to the receiving device via the direct data transfer link.

  • Publication number: 20100315999
Abstract: Various example embodiments are disclosed herein. According to an example embodiment, a technique may include receiving, via a wireless network, a frame indicating whether or not regular acknowledgements may be used (or alternatively indicating whether or not data frames with fragmented payloads may be used), in addition to block acknowledgements. In example embodiments, an Add Block Acknowledgement (ADDBA) response frame or a block Acknowledgement may be received indicating whether or not regular acknowledgements may be used to acknowledge receipt of data frames, or alternatively, indicating whether or not data frames with fragmented payloads may be transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20100220690
Abstract: Method, apparatus, and computer program product embodiments are disclosed to improve establishing direct links in the Contention Based Period (CPB) of the MAC superframe. Embodiments of the invention enable scheduled and unscheduled data delivery modes (DDM) for a Contention Based Period. Embodiments of the invention reuse capabilities of the private basic service set (PBSS) Control Point (PCP) device like polling during the announcement time (AT) period in order to identify stations that want to initiate data transmission with other stations. That knowledge is further used by the control node (PCP) to facilitate training procedure between stations through the Contention Based Period (CPB) period or Dynamic service period (SP) periods. The behavior of stations within those periods is divided in two phases: the training phase, referred to as the Beamforming Training Time (BFTT) and data schedule negotiation phase referred to as the Data Delivery Mode Negotiation Time (DNT).

  • Publication number: 20100177712
Abstract: Method, apparatus, and computer program product embodiments are disclosed to improve the channel switching in communication protocols, by simplifying transmission of only a single, acknowledged switching message to trigger off channel—or base channel switching after an initial off channel configuration and set-up of the direct link. The single message off channel switching indication in direct link is based on two specific timeout timers that serve as a basis for channel switching between the devices in TDLS direct link. An immediate fallback transition is provided to the base channel in the event that the communication in the off-channel does not succeed. The timeouts in the fallback procedure allow continuing the planned data transfer immediately in the base channel of the TDLS direct link if the switching to the off channel has not succeeded.

  • Publication number: 20100146351
Abstract: A system for implementing self aggregating communication operations. Wireless communication transports may utilize basic radio transmission units for communication (e.g., such as a symbol, groups of symbols, etc.). Radio transmission units may comprise, for example, one or more message packets. The one or more message packets may be added to a radio transmission unit in preparation for wireless transmission. If unused space exists in the radio transmission unit after the one or more packets have been added, copies of the one or more the packets may also be inserted into the radio transmission unit. Any unfilled space remaining in the radio transmission unit that cannot accommodate complete copies of the one or more message packets may be filled utilizing zero padding. Radio transmission units composed in this manner (e.g., including multiple occurrences of each packet) may be deemed “self aggregated.
