A position indicator scale of the adjustable arm includes multiple notches for calibrating the distance between the adjustable patient positioning arm and the image sensor. The adjustable patient positioning arm includes a patient teeth supporting device and a patient chin rest which are positioned at a fixed coordinate reference relative to the image sensor to capture an image of a patient's teeth. The fixed coordinate reference corresponds to co-ordinates of multiple anatomical planes associated with the patient teeth supporting device and a patient chin rest relative to the image sensor.
