  • Patent number: 10277929
Abstract: Techniques are described for live streaming media content using on-demand manifests. A manifest file providing playback options for a portion of the duration of the playback of a live stream can be provided to viewer devices. The viewer devices can also be provided location identifiers for the live stream. Based on the location identifier used by the viewer devices to request fragments of the live stream of the media content, the requests from the viewer devices using the manifest file can be analyzed to determine a fragment to be provided for playback in relation to the time period of the live stream.

  • Patent number: 10277669
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for implementing a communication channel between a client device and a content distribution network (CDN) during playback of media content. The communication channel can be used by a client device to provide the CDN information pertaining to fragments the client device anticipates requesting from the CDN, as well as by the CDN to provide feedback to the client device regarding whether it is likely that the CDN will be able to satisfy the anticipated requests. The CDN can perform various operations based, at least in part, upon the information it receives from the client device.

  • Publication number: 20190043236
Abstract: Near-to-eye displays support a range of applications from helping users with low vision through augmenting a real world view to displaying virtual environments. The images displayed may contain text to be read by the user. It would be beneficial to provide users with text enhancements to improve its readability and legibility, as measured through improved reading speed and/or comprehension. Such enhancements can provide benefits to both visually impaired and non-visually impaired users where legibility may be reduced by external factors as well as by visual dysfunction(s) of the user. Methodologies and system enhancements that augment text to be viewed by an individual, whatever the source of the image, are provided in order to aid the individual in poor viewing conditions and/or to overcome physiological or psychological visual defects affecting the individual or to simply improve the quality of the reading experience for the user.

  • Publication number: 20190040497
Abstract: In an embodiment, an alloy is exposed to a hydrophilic solvent at least until at least one Group I or Group II element is substantially removed so as to produce a nanomaterial that substantially includes a metal, semimetal or non-metal material and that exhibits a desired set of microstructure characteristics. The hydrophilic solvent is configured to be reactive with respect to the at least one Group I or Group II element and substantially unreactive with respect to the metal, semimetal or non-metal material. In another embodiment, an active material is infiltrated into pores of a nanoporous metal or metal oxide, after which the infiltrated nanoporous metal or metal oxide material is annealed to produce an active material-based nanocomposite material. A protective coating layer is deposited on at least part of a surface of the active material-based nanocomposite material.

  • Publication number: 20180336977
Abstract: A catalyst-free synthesis method for the formation of a metalorganic compound comprising a desired (first) metal may include, for example, selecting another (second) metal and an organic solvent, with the second metal being selected to (i) be more reactive with respect to the organic solvent than the first metal and (ii) form, upon exposure of the second metal to the organic solvent, a reaction by-product that is more soluble in the organic solvent than the metalorganic compound. An alloy comprising the first metal and the second metal may be first produced (e.g., formed or otherwise obtained) and then treated with the organic solvent in a liquid phase or a vapor phase to form a mixture comprising (i) the reaction by-product comprising the second metal and (ii) the metalorganic compound comprising the first metal. The metalorganic compound may then be separated from the mixture in the form of a solid.

  • Publication number: 20180296939
Abstract: An extractor may have a housing that maintains a solvent pool in which solids material being processed is immersed during operation. One or more bed decks can be positioned inside of the housing to provide multiple extraction stages. In some examples, the bed decks are arranged to provide one bed deck positioned at a vertically elevated position relative to another bed deck, thereby providing a drop zone where the solids material passing through the machine drops from the vertically elevated bed deck to a lower bed deck. To reduce the amount of solids material passing through the drop zone that becomes entrained in the solvent, the exactor can be configured with a settling zone. In some examples, the settling zone is formed by truncating the length of the vertically elevated bed deck, providing increased space and residence time for the solids material to fall out of suspension.

  • Patent number: 9942577
Abstract: Techniques are described for caching dynamic objects for media content playback. A media server can provide a cache key representing a set of instructions used to select a subset of manifest data. The cache key can be provided to a viewer device, which can then contact a content delivery network (CDN) for a dynamic manifest file corresponding to the cache key. The CDN can contact the media server to have the dynamic manifest file generated using the cache key if it is not in its cache.

  • Publication number: 20180053285
Abstract: Near-to-eye displays within head mounted devices offer both users with and without visual impairments enhanced visual experiences either by improving or augmenting their visual perception. Unless the user directly views the display without intermediate optical elements then the designer must consider chromatic as well as other aberrations. Within the prior art the optical train is either complex through additional corrective elements adding to weight, cost, and size or through image processing. However, real time applications with mobile users require low latency to avoid physical side effects. Accordingly, it would be beneficial to provide near-to-eye displays mitigating these distortions and chromatic aberrations through pre-distortion based electronic processing techniques in conjunction with design optimization of the optical train with low weight, low volume, low complexity, and low cost.

  • Publication number: 20180045964
Abstract: Within applications for Near-to-Eye (NR2I) displays, irrespective of whether they are for short-term, long-term, low vision, augmented reality, etc., there is a conflicting tradeoff between user comfort, ease of attachment, minimizing intrusiveness and aesthetics which must be concurrently balanced with and are often in conflict with providing an optical vision system within the NR2I display that provides the user with a wide field of view and high image resolution whilst also offering a large exit pupil for eye placement with sufficient eye clearance. Embodiments of the invention address these issues and provide a high performance optical system through the design of the optical eyepiece design to overcome these limitations within a bioptic configuration with laterally disposed displays.

  • Patent number: 9870333
Abstract: A peripheral component interconnect express (PCIe) eXtensions for instrumentation (PXIe) chassis includes a backplane, multiple peripheral slots, a mezzanine card and an integrated accelerator module. The peripheral slots are located on the backplane and configured to receive insertable PXIe peripheral modules, respectively. The mezzanine card is on the backplane and configured to accommodate at least one of connectors, integrated circuits (ICs) and signal lines incorporated in the PXIe chassis. The integrated accelerator module is on the mezzanine card within the PXIe chassis and configured to accelerate processing of signals received from the PXIe peripheral modules.

  • Publication number: 20180013286
Abstract: An electrical power source includes a power converter and either an electrical generator or an electrical energy storage device. Power flow is controlled through controlling power converter based on a voltage source and resistance model of the electrical power source. A power converter for an electrical generator is controlled to synthesize or produce a constant voltage of the voltage source and a variable value of the resistance. The resistance value is controlled to deliver a maximum available output power to the electrical microgrid over a range of microgrid voltages up to a voltage below a maximum allowable voltage of the electrical microgrid. For an electrical energy storage device, the power converter is controlled to synthesize or produce a resistance value of the resistance that is dependent upon a phase angle between the voltage at the microgrid side of the electrical power source and current of the electrical energy storage device.
