  • Patent number: 9663942
Abstract: An improved handrail for a staircase or ramp. In one embodiment, the handrail includes an elongated member such as a cylinder or bar that spans the length of the staircase or ramp and a riser barrier. The riser barrier has an extender portion and a riser portion. The extender portion of the riser barrier keeps the elongated member a sufficient distance horizontally from the riser portion that a person can slide his or her hand on the rail without interference. The riser portion projects vertically a sufficient distance above the elongated member to deter sliding down the elongated member. Thus, sliding on the member is deterred, while the function of the cylinder as a handrail is preserved.

  • Patent number: 9637374
Abstract: A MEMS capacitive transducer with increased robustness and resilience to acoustic shock. The transducer structure includes a flexible membrane supported between a first volume and a second volume, and at least one variable vent structure in communication with at least one of the first and second volumes. The variable vent structure includes at least one moveable portion which is moveable in response to a pressure differential across the moveable portion so as to vary the size of a flow path through the vent structure. The variable vent may be formed through the membrane and the moveable portion may be a part of the membrane, defined by one or more channels, that is deflectable away from the surface of the membrane. The variable vent is preferably closed in the normal range of pressure differentials but opens at high pressure differentials to provide more rapid equalization of the air volumes above and below the membrane.

  • Publication number: 20170083454
Abstract: Techniques and mechanisms for exchanging information between a solid state drive (SSD) and a write-in-place non-volatile memory via a host device. In an embodiment, access control information defines state of the SSD, where the access control information determines and/or is based on an access by the host device to other non-volatile memory of the SSD. The access control information includes address conversion information defining a correspondence of a logical address with a physical address for a location of the other non-volatile memory of the SSD. At least some of the access control information is stored by the SSD to the write-in-place non-volatile memory for later retrieval by the SSD. In another embodiment, the SSD signals that a commit operation is to be performed to flush any cached or buffered access control information into the write-in-place non-volatile memory.

  • Publication number: 20160378370
Abstract: A controller maintains exposed and unexposed locations of a first storage device and a second storage device. In response to receiving a request a perform a write operation to write data in locations that span the first storage device and the second storage device, the controller atomically writes an entirety of the data in the unexposed locations of the first storage device.

  • Patent number: 9521550
Abstract: A method and system are provided for configuring or provisioning a digital video surveillance system (DVSS) element, such as a digital video recorder (DVR). Implementations described herein use a scannable device identifier, such as a bar code or a quick response (QR) code, to uniquely identify a DVSS element. Rather than relying on a technician connecting a laptop to the DVSS element using a direct wired connection, or on the availability of network connectivity, the bar code of the DVSS element is scanned, optionally a network name is assigned and a network password is calculated based on the scannable device identifier. A direct wireless connection is established between a mobile communications device and a wireless transceiver at the DVR. An authentication screen is displayed to enable the configuration connection and provide access to configuration functions for configuring or provisioning the DVSS element.

  • Patent number: 9466055
Abstract: Systems and methods for facilitating online to offline commerce are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system configured to receive a request to check-in a customer at a merchant facility is disclosed. The system receives a request to access real-time pre-sale transaction data associated with a first customer and transmits the real-time pre-sale transaction data associated with the first customer to a mobile client device. The request to check-in and the request to access the real-time pre-sale transaction data are transmitted by the first mobile client device. The system is configured to authenticate the request to check-in at the merchant facility, process the request to access the real-time pre-sale transaction data, and responsively access the real-time pre-sale transaction data associated with the first customer from a point of sale device located at the merchant facility.
