  • Patent number: 9811802
Abstract: This disclosure describes a device and system for verifying the content of items in a bin within a materials handling facility. In some implementations, a bin content verification apparatus may pass by one or more bins and capture images of those bins. The images may be processed to determine whether the content included in the bins has changed since the last time images of the bins were captured. A determination may also be made as to whether a change to the bin content was expected and, if so, if the determined change corresponds with the expected change.

  • Publication number: 20170308543
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for secure data modification using segmented hashing are disclosed. An intermediate device on a data path between a storage service and a client receives a modification request for a data segment of a data chunk of a storage object. The device generates a new chunk hash value for the chunk based on an original chunk hash value of the chunk, an original segment hash value of the segment to be modified, and a new segment hash value computed based on the modification. The device generates a modified version of the chunk based on the modification request, and uploads the modified version and the new chunk hash value to the storage service.

  • Patent number: 9794191
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for uploading data from a sender to a receiver. A data deduplication technique is described that may reduce the bandwidth used in uploading data from the sender to the receiver. In the technique, the receiver, rather than the sender, maintains a fingerprint dictionary for previously uploaded data. When a sender has additional data to be uploaded, the sender extracts fingerprints for units of the data and sends the fingerprints to the receiver. The receiver checks its fingerprint dictionary to determine the data units to be uploaded and notifies the sender of the identified units, which then sends the identified units of data to the receiver. The technique may, for example, be applied in virtualized data store systems to reduce bandwidth usage in uploading data.

  • Patent number: 9769392
Abstract: The high-intensity specular reflection of light from a surface of an object may create distortions in images of the object, in locations determined based on a perspective of an optical sensor. Multiple images of the object taken from different perspectives may include multiple specular artifacts in different locations, and a composite image of the object that omits such artifacts may be generated based on the multiple images. In particular, pixels of each of the images corresponding to the locations of the specular artifacts and having optimal intensities may be identified. The composite image may be generated based on the pixels having optimal intensities, and by excluding the pixels corresponding to the specular artifacts.

  • Publication number: 20170230459
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and computer-accessible storage media for providing a volume-based block storage service and application programming interfaces (APIs) to the service. A block storage service and block storage service APIs may allow processes (applications or appliances) on the service client network to leverage remote, volume-based block storage provided by the service provider. The APIs may provide a standard interface to volume-based block storage operations on a remote data store. The service provider, the service clients, and/or third parties may develop various applications and/or appliances that may, for example, be instantiated in service clients' local networks and that leverage the block storage service via the APIs to create and manage volumes and snapshots on the remote data store and to upload and download data from the volumes and snapshots on the remote data store.

  • Patent number: 9717566
Abstract: A dental prophylaxis angle having a tool head and a hand piece includes an adjustment mechanism, which allows the tool head to be angularly adjusted between a plurality of angular positions relative to the hand piece. The tool head is axially shiftable relative to the hand piece between a locked position and an adjustment position. In the locked position, the tool head is prevented from shifting angularly relative to the hand piece. In the adjustment position, the tool head may be selectively pivoted relative to the hand piece and thereby angularly adjusted. A spring may be provided to urge the tool head into the locked position at one or more of the angular positions.

  • Publication number: 20170211428
Abstract: A fluid expander is disclosed as used in conjunction with an air compressor that is driven by a prime mover. The fluid expander is structured to extract useful work from a fluid stream and add that work to the work provided by the prime mover to the compressor. In some embodiments a clutch can be used to decouple the expander from the compressor if insufficient work is developed by the expander. A gear train can also be used to change the rotational speed prior to work being delivered to the compressor.

Abstract: A system for managing the flow of fluids within a closed-loop system includes a pump controller and a variable-speed pump in communication with a conduit circuit including at least one one pressure-independent control valve (PICV). By using PICVs instead of conventional, two-way, two-way, pressure-dependent valves, the pump controller can monitor system needs and adjust the the speed of the variable-speed pump to more efficiently deliver pressure to the system without overshooting flow requirements, leading to less energy consumed and less cost incurred. A method method of variable-speed pumping including the use of PICVs is also disclosed.
