    Abstract: In one aspect the invention provides matrix based fertilizer formulations that reduce plant nutrient leaching into water sources. In another aspect, the invention provides matrix based formulations that reduce pesticide leaching into water sources. In still another aspect the invention provides matrix based fertilizer formulations comprising both fertilizers and pesticides wherein the formulation reduces pesticide and plant nutrient leaching into water sources. The invention also provides methods for the application of matrix based fertilizer formulations.
