  • Patent number: 6488841
Abstract: A skimming apparatus which skims a two-component liquid from the surface of a liquid mixture in a tank includes a pump which pumps the skimmed liquid to a coalescer for separating and collecting a lower density liquid component from the mixture and returning the rest of the liquid to the tank. The skimming apparatus further includes a skimmer which is designed to float on the surface of the liquid mixture in the tank. Arms extend between the skimmer and a mounting assembly so that as the level of the liquid mixture in the tank changes the skimmer will continue to skim from the surface of the liquid mixture. A self-adjusting tube assembly extends between the skimmer and the mounting assembly.

  • Patent number: 6056128
Abstract: A coalescer for separating a first liquid component from a multiple component liquid mixture wherein the first liquid component has a lower specific gravity than the liquid mixture. The coalescer comprises a generally rectangular housing defining an entry port and an exit port and a flow path therebetween. A grid contained within a removable cartridge is received within the housing and includes a plurality of parallel inclined plates residing along the flow path to separate the first liquid component from the liquid mixture. A second liquid port in communication with the flow path via an outlet causes the first liquid component to flow into a separate container. The liquid mixture continues to flow through the coalescer until all of the first liquid component is removed.

  • Patent number: 5814213
Abstract: An improved skimming apparatus for skimming a two component liquid includes a housing mounted to a tank below the normal liquid level for the tank, an outlet for pumping fluid from the submerged housing and an intake structure extending upwardly from the submerged housing and defining an inlet for permitting inflow of liquid to the interior of the submerged housing. The intake structure includes an intake tube rotatably mounted to the housing at upper and lower ends. The intake tube rotates in response to variations of the liquid level in the housing, to vary the inlet size and hence the rate of inflow to the housing. An adjuster provides control over the variation of the inlet size, to accommodate different skimming rates for liquids of different temperatures. An intermediate tube surrounds the intake tube, and an outer tube surrounds the intermediate tube.

  • Patent number: 5601705
Abstract: A skimmer/coalescer system includes a skimmer which skims a two-component liquid from the surface of a liquid mixture in a tank, and a pump which pumps the skimmed liquid to a coalescer for separating and collecting a lower density liquid component from the mixture and returning the rest of the liquid to the tank. The skimmer includes a housing submerged below the liquid surface in the tank, an outlet operatively connected to the pump and an intake which supplies liquid to the housing by gravity. The intake includes a vertically movable inlet which remains adjacent the liquid surface regardless of liquid level changes in the tank, thereby to skim near the surface where the lower density liquid dominates, and to enhance skimming efficiency.
