    Abstract: A suspension for a protective helmet having a headband section that encompasses at least a part of a user's head and a crown support section connected to the headband section. The headband section and the crown support section of the suspension are fabricated from an integral piece of material. The suspension system may also have a headband comprising a section of elastic material. Alternatively, the headband may comprise a forward band having a first section to contact the forehead of the user and a second section adapted to be positioned between the user's head and the crown support section of the suspension during use thereof.

    Abstract: A thermal imaging camera having improved durability and ergonomic features including generally a seamless housing encompassing a thermal imaging core, a first handle, and a battery compartment. The housing is preferably positioned at a first end of the first handle and the battery compartment is positioned at the opposite end of the first handle. By positioning the first handle intermediate between the housing and the battery compartment, the center of gravity of the thermal imaging camera coincides generally with the handle when the thermal imaging camera is in use, that is when batteries are present within the battery compartment. The camera can also include a second handle positioned between the housing and the battery compartment, the second handle is preferably oriented generally parallel to and spaced apart from the first handle to facilitate passing of the thermal imaging camera between users. The camera also has improved water resistance, shock-resistance and other operational features.

    Abstract: A superconducting magnetic energy (SMES) system having an axially sectioned multilayered solenoid coil immersed in a liquid helium bath contained in annular helium vessel includes as an interface between each section of the inner and outer layers of the coil and the helium vessel a finger plate assembly comprising a plurality of electrically nonconductive finger plates clamped at one end with spacers between adjacent finger plates to hanger plates welded to the helium vessel walls. The other ends of the finger plates are interleafed with the turns of the coil and clamped together with the coil turns by clamping assemblies which clamp the turns in adjacent layers of the coil. Loading bars between the layers transmit the radial loads generated by the magnetic and thermal forces acting on the coil to the finger plates.

    Abstract: A high power density semiconductor module of reduced size and weight wherein a fusion element assembly for meeting electrical power processing requirements is nested in a hollow casing for both electrically insulating and operatively cooling by a single fluid medium. A pair of electrically conductive terminals penetrates the casing at opposite ends to make an electrical path through the fusion element assembly which resides within the casing as a stack in which each semiconductor fusion element is interleaved with plural heat sink elements undergoing a uniform compressive loading parameter. The stack is electrically insulated and cooled through transverse grooves in the fusion element assembly, which in one embodiment for space based utilization, is by way of finned heat sink or backing plate elements for passaging a dual function cryogen fluid such as supercritical liquid hydrogen.

    Abstract: Silicon tetrafluoride gas is produced by reacting aqueous fluosilicic acid and concentrated sulfuric acid in a vertical column. The fluosilicic acid is fed to an intermediate point of the column and the sulfuric acid to the top of the column. Silicon dioxide, both dissolved and suspended, is fed with fluosilicic acid in some forms so as to produce a by-product acid substantially free of silicon and fluoride values.
