Patent number: 10216691Abstract: A method of monitoring the mechanical condition of a machine in which statistically significant measurements on a characteristic signal are made over a period of time which can include interruptions and variations in the operation of the machine giving rise to uncharacteristic signals and the processing of the signal during the statistically significant measurement automatically excludes those parts of the signal associated with interruptions and variations in the operation of the machine. The invention also includes apparatus for carrying out the above method including a preamplifier, adapted to provide output to a further amplifier, adapted to provided output to dynamic enveloping circuitry, adapted to provide an output to an analogue to digital converter, adapted to provide an output to a digital micro-electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2014Date of Patent: February 26, 2019Assignee: KITTIWAKE HOLROYD LIMITEDInventors: Trevor James Holroyd, David Lin

Publication number: 20130240272Abstract: A non-pneumatic tire is disclosed where a resilient wheel is mounted on a rim and the wheel has an inner ring, an outer ring and a plurality of flexible webs interconnected between the inner and outer rings. The flexible webs define openings in through the resilient wheel. The stiffness of the inner wheel at a position adjacent to the inner face is different than the stiffness of the inner wheel at a position adjacent to the outer face. This stiffness difference can be accomplished by providing inflated membranes in at least some of the openings or by molding the wheel with an asymmetric parting line. In addition, the wheels could be dynamically controlled by providing magnetically actuable membranes in some of the openings.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2013Publication date: September 19, 2013Applicant: POLARIS INDUSTRIES INC.Inventors: Donald Brett Gass, Jeffrey D. Publication number: 20020140566Abstract: A method and apparatus of monitoring the condition or mechanical health of slowly rotating machinery comprises processing signals from sensing means applied to the machinery, which processing approximately or exactly sub-divides the period of a rotational cycle into a number of time or cyclic phase windows, each of which is long compared to the typical duration of a transient excitation of the structure at the frequency or frequencies of detection, applies a threshold level or acceptance criteria or calculates one in such a way that the presence or absence of any significant detectable activity in each of the time or phase windows can be determined for each rotational cycle and the fraction or percentage of those time or phase windows in which activity is present can be measured or averaged so as to provide a statistically significant indication of the extent of the activity throughout the rotational cycle.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 18, 2002Publication date: October 3, 2002Inventor: Trevor James Holroyd

Patent number: 6260869Abstract: A motorcycle uses a unique suspension system to reduce front end dive during braking. Anti-dive characteristics through full suspension travel provides a smoother ride by reducing the compression damping used in the suspension. The suspension system incorporates a rigid fork, a compression fork and a rocker arm. The front wheel is mounted to the rocker arm such that an axis of the wheel is located along the rocker arm between the rigid fork and the compression fork. A brake is coupled to the axis of the front wheel with a first support member and is connected to the rigid fork with a second support member. A brake linkage which includes a portion of the rigid fork, the rocker arm, and the first and second support members forms an irregular quadrilateral during vertical movement of the front wheel, such that a centerline of the second support member and a centerline of the rocker arm intersect behind the front wheel axis.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1998Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Assignee: Excelsior-Henderson Motorcyle Co.Inventors: Daniel L.
