Patent number: 9973329Abstract: When a data path includes CMOS circuitry, such circuitry may introduce jitter into the data signal. Embodiments are described in which additional data transitions are made to occur, and these additional data transitions may change the characteristics of the data frequency content transferred to the power supply so that such noise may be better filtered. This may have an effect of reducing jitter in the data signal. In one embodiment, a second data signal is generated to be a version of a first data signal with every second bit inverted. Second CMOS circuitry receives the second data signal in parallel to first CMOS circuitry receiving the first data signal. The first CMOS circuitry and the second CMOS circuitry are connected to a same power supply.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2017Date of Patent: May 15, 2018Assignee: INPHI CORPORATIONInventors: Sheldon James Hood, Paul Thomas Banens

Publication number: 20140270458Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods are disclosed for determining the number and type of blood cells in a blood sample. The blood sample is collected and held in a slide. In the slide, the blood sample is separated and channeled into at least two sampling chambers, one for red blood cells, another for white blood cells, and optionally yet another for platelets. The sampling chambers have wetting agents, lysing agents, staining agents, or the like therein to mix with the blood and facilitate cell count. The slide is placed in a portable slide analyzer where the sampling chambers are illuminated and images of the sampling chambers are taken. These images are converted into electronic form and sent by a communications module of the slide analyzer to a remote external location where the images are analyzed to determine the number and type of blood cells in the blood sample.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 12, 2014Publication date: September 18, 2014Applicants: The Regents of The University of California, Tahoe Institute for Rural Health Research, LLCInventors: Zachary Smith, Tingjuan Gao, Stephen Lane, Sebastian Wachmann-Hogiu, Denis Dwyre, Laurence Heifetz, James Hood, Dennis Matthews, Keith Tatsukawa

Patent number: 8126663Abstract: An electronic signal level detection system and method are provided. The method receives an analog input signal having a variable voltage and compares the input signal voltage to a threshold. A detection signal is generated for input signal voltages exceeding the threshold in a periodic first time frame. In a second periodic time frame (following the first time frame), a count is updated in response to the generated detection signals. The count is used to create a metric representative of the difference between the input signal voltage and the threshold. The count is incremented in response to the generating a detection signal (“1”) in the first time frame, and decremented in response to not generating a detection signal (“0”) in the first time frame.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2010Date of Patent: February 28, 2012Assignee: Applied Micro Circuits CorporationInventors: Matthew Douglas Brown, Sheldon James Hood, Guy Jacque Fortier, Stan Harry Blakey

Patent number: 7503403Abstract: A system for drilling a well comprises a tubular member having a bottomhole assembly at a bottom end thereof disposed in a wellbore. A first sensor is disposed in the bottomhole assembly at a predetermined axial location for detecting bending in a first axis and generating a first bending signal in response thereto, where the first axis is substantially orthogonal to a longitudinal axis of the bottomhole assembly. A second sensor is disposed in the bottomhole assembly at the predetermined axial location for detecting bending in a second axis and generating a second bending signal in response thereto, where the second axis is substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal axis. A processor receives the first bending signal and the second bending signal and relates the first bending signal and the second bending signal to a borehole curvature according to programmed instructions.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2004Date of Patent: March 17, 2009Assignee: Baker Hughes, IncorporatedInventors: Pushkar Jogi, Michael Neubert, John D. Publication number: 20070174665Abstract: A method is disclosed to adjust error thresholds in a data storage and retrieval system. The method supplies a data storage and retrieval system comprising memory and microcode, wherein that microcode comprises one or more default error thresholds. The method determines if the memory comprises one or more operational error thresholds. If the method determines that the memory comprises one or more operational error thresholds, then the method operates the data storage and retrieval system using those one or more operational error thresholds. Alternatively, if the method determines that the memory does not comprise one or more operational error thresholds, then the method sets the one or more default error thresholds as the one or more operational error thresholds.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 6, 2006Publication date: July 26, 2007Inventors: James Hood, Brian Rinaldi, Micah Robison
