Abstract: An improved downrigger particularly adapted for use in downtrolling terminal fishing tackle at a selectable depth in the water, the improved downrigger including an improved base enabling the downrigger to be readily mounted on and removed from a boat, the base carrying a boom which may be easily indexed to any of four positions without requiring removal of the boom and associated mounting means therefor from the base. The downrigger also includes a cable reel and crank handle means that may be readily mounted for either right or left hand use, and, in addition, the downrigger includes means for indicating the depth or distance at which a trolling weight or terminal fishing tackle are being trolled in the water. In several embodiments of the invention, the boom may also be easily and quickly extended and retracted and improved means is provided for locking the boom in the extended and retracted positions.

Abstract: The specification discloses an insert for lining and/or relining valve guides for reciprocating-type poppet valves in cylinder heads of internal combustion engines. The insert has multiple layers of metallic materials and preferably includes an inner sleeve or tube of spring-tempered phosphor bronze and an outer carrier sleeve or tube of steel or aluminum. The combined sleeves provide the insert with high wear resistance and lubricity and excellent heat transfer properties. Separate formation and later assembly allows precise control of wall thicknesses, diameters and concentricities.Also disclosed is a method for manufacturing the insert including separately forming the inner and outer sleeves or tubes, and inserting one within the other for frictionally holding them together.

Abstract: Tools and method for removing an overhead camshaft and assembling and disassembling the valve train of an internal combustion engine. One of the tools comprises a plurality of pivotal rocker members for depressing the valves of the engine allowing the overhead camshaft to be removed axially from the cylinder head. This tool includes an improved base for attachment to the cylinder head as well as improved supports for the rocker members. The companion tool includes a hollow cylinder facilitating removal of the spring keepers when the spring and retainer are depressed and having an internal annular, inclined shoulder facilitating insertion of the keepers during assembly of the valve train.
