Publication number: 20110191215Abstract: A program controlled apparatus, system, and method for determining the transactional taxes due for each item by any taxing authority worldwide. The apparatus comprises a first database comprising a tree structure identifying all of the zones to be examined. A second database comprising all of the taxing authorities is independent from the first zone database. A third database, decoupled from the first and second databases, has data representing the relationship between the data records of the first database and the data records of the second database. Each of the databases can be updated periodically to reflect any changes in identified taxing authorities for the zones over which they may have taxing authority. Furthermore, the present invention provides for an independent, autonomous determination of jurisdiction and tax for each line item and calculates the tax based on any exceptions and exemptions.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 18, 2011Publication date: August 4, 2011Inventors: Jeffrey Evan Nadler, James Donovan Barta, Joseph Allen Blotner, Eric Thomas Christian, Carolyn Brauner Fong, James Madison Seymour, JR., Thomas William Waterhouse, Gregory Alan Woolsey

Patent number: 7957384Abstract: An apparatus and method for transferring data through a network switch. The network switch comprises a plurality of ports each having at least one port identifier and associating with at least one virtual local area network (VLAN) database, and a relational lookup engine storing a plurality of relations between at least one media access control (MAC) address and the at least one port identifier. At least one port receives a frame of data comprising a destination MAC (DMAC) address and the relational lookup engine uses the DMAC address to retrieve an associated port identifier that identifies a port to which the frame is forwarded. A source MAC (SMAC) address of the frame is used to produce an input relation for the relational lookup engine to identify the associated port identifier that identifies the port that received the frame of data for learning associations between the ports and MAC addresses.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 2009Date of Patent: June 7, 2011Inventor: James Madison Kelley

Publication number: 20090327225Abstract: Systems and methods that enable relationship information to be carried along with the entity when serializing/deserializing entities among application tiers. A tracking component tracks information on relationships associated with an entity, and further enables users to perform subsequent change processing on the entity's relationship information. Accordingly, relationship information can be carried along with the entity such that database operation can be performed without requirement of additional information from the database (e.g., foreign key information that is part of associated graphs).Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2008Publication date: December 31, 2009Applicant: MICROSOFT CORPORATIONInventors: Sarah M. Publication number: 20090265320Abstract: A relational processor (RP) is described for storing relational instances and processing queries using a unique mapping to an associate. The associate may contain one or more semantic tokens. The RP comprises an input means for receiving and processing input query packets, at least one associate processor (AP) for retrieving associate sets by domain and at least one set processor (SP) for performing set operations on associate sets. An output means collects, formats and transmits the associates or associated information responsive to a query to at least one user or a machine. The RP further includes an associate array manager (AAM) for managing APs, an associate switch (AS) and a response collector (RC). The AS routs specific associates to specific SPs. The SP is adaptable to perform set operations on the associates. An alternate unique SP Sieve architecture is described which does not require the AS. The RP is able to perform longest prefix match using a new algorithm.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 9, 2009Publication date: October 22, 2009Inventor: James Madison Kelley

Patent number: 6870899Abstract: Loop qualification systems and methods involve evaluating Loop Make-Up (LMU) data to determine whether loops qualify for certain services, such as ADSL service or other digital services. The LMU data includes such information as whether the loop is comprised of copper, fiber, is a DLC, the length, resist zone, carrier zone, loading factor, the existence of a DAML, and taper code information. The loop qualification systems and methods obtain LMU data on existing loops and also information on loops that have not yet been completed. Network service providers (NSPs) interface with the loop qualification systems to determine whether certain lines are qualified for a service. The loop qualification systems also include web-based interfaces to allow both the NSPs and end users to make an inquiry as to the capability of a given loop.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2002Date of Patent: March 22, 2005Assignee: BellSouth Intellectual Property CorporationInventors: Tingting Lu, Kenneth W.
