  • Patent number: 8439326
Abstract: A safety tether is provided for securing a heavy work tool. The safety tether includes one or more springs that serve to carry some of the weight of the work tool. A safety chain is provided in parallel connection with the springs. The length of the chain is less than the extended length of a spring at its maximum rated load, thus precluding extension of the springs to that link, greatly reducing any likelihood that the springs will break. In the event of spring breakage, the chain serves as a safety chain, stopping the tool from falling.

  • Patent number: 5531550
Abstract: An end finishing tool includes a mandrel with a plurality of ribs at its distal end; an actuator longitudinally moveable in a first direction relative to the mandrel for moving the ribs radially outwardly in the installation mode to grip the inner surface of a conduit to be finished and in a second opposite direction for enabling the ribs to move radially inwardly in the extraction mode; an actuator driver threadably engaged with the actuator for driving the actuator in the first and second directions and a clamp release device for arresting movement of the actuator driver in the extraction mode for compelling the actuator to move in the second direction for enabling the ribs to move radially inwardly and release the inner surface of the conduit.

  • Patent number: 5081768
Abstract: A pipe cutting system includes an annular pipe encircling band member with parallel edge surfaces for encircling the pipe to be cut, releasable structure for securing the band member in pipe encircling configuration, and structure for spacing the edge surfaces of the band from the outer surface of the pipe. A carriage assembly includes two pairs of opposed spaced guide members for engaging opposed edges of the band and providing stable guidance of the carriage assembly around the pipe and structure for fixedly mounting a cutting tool on the carriage assembly. The cutting tool assembly is secured to the carriage assembly for movement relative to the pipe, preferably about a pivot axis parallel to the axis of the pipe, and includes a drive motor, a manual motor control, and a cutter disc coupled to the drive motor and adapted to be driven in rotation by the drive motor in response to the manual motor control.

  • Patent number: 5044075
Abstract: Boiler tube repair apparatus includes elongated guide rail structure for securing to a boiler tube panel adjacent a desired cut region, and three tool assemblies for mounting on the guide rail structure. Each tool assembly includes carriage structure with guide structure for engaging the guide rail structure and support structure on which a tube machining tool is mounted and that defines a tool movement axis dedicated to and coordinated with that tool. Each machining tool includes a drive motor, a manual motor control, a drive shaft and a machining member such as a cutter disc or head.

  • Patent number: 4739688
Abstract: Boiler tube panel removal apparatus includes elongated guide rail structure for securing to a boiler tube panel adjacent a desired cut region, and a cutting tool assembly for mounting on the guide rail structure. The cutting tool assembly includes a support carriage with spaced guide structure for engaging the guide rail structure, main pivot structure secured to the support carriage having a pivot axis extending transversely to the guide rail structure, secondary pivot structure secured to the support carriage, and plunge cut link structure mounted on the secondary pivot structure. A cutting tool that is mounted on the main pivot includes a drive motor, a manual motor control, a drive shaft and a tube cutter disc mounted on the drive shaft. Manual operation of the plunge cut link structure rotates the cutting tool about the main pivot axis in plunge cutting action through a panel of tubes adjacent the guide rail structure.
