  • Publication number: 20240317284
Abstract: A control system and method includes obtaining information associated with a vehicle system that includes one or more vehicles that are configured to move along a route. The vehicle system information is applied to a trip simulation to determine how the vehicle system is expected operate while the vehicle system moves along the route. The trip simulation includes one or more anticipated operating conditions of the vehicle system and/or anticipated route conditions the vehicle system is expected to be exposed to as the vehicle system moves along the route. It is determined whether the vehicle system will be able to stop at one or more locations along the route based on the application of the vehicle system information to the trip simulation. An alert is communicated responsive to determining that the vehicle system will be unable to stop at the one or more locations along the route.

  • Publication number: 20230206757
Abstract: A system and method receive an event signal indicative of an adverse event on a vehicular pathway from one or more of a user interface device or one or more sensors disposed onboard the first vehicle. Event information is determined that is associated with the adverse event on the vehicular pathway and the first vehicle. An event alert is generated that contains the event information, and a communication device onboard the first vehicle is controller to communicate the event alert to an offboard control system configured to control movement of one or more second vehicles based on the event alert by modifying a respective planned route of each of the one or more second vehicles to bypass a location of the adverse event. The one or more second vehicles are not mechanically connected to the first vehicle and do not operate under control of the first vehicle.

  • Patent number: 11332172
Abstract: In a method of determining a radius or diameter of a train wheel, a camera mounted on a train acquires first and second images (pictures) of first and second objects spaced along a path being traveled by the train. Matches are then determined between the first and second objects appearing in the first and second acquired images and representations (pictures) of the first and second objects appearing in prerecorded images included in a track database that include corresponding first and second geographical locations. A distance L traveled by the train between the first and second geographical locations is determined and a sum C of electrical pulses generated by an encoder coupled to the train wheel during travel of the train the distance L is determined. Based on the distance L and the sum C, a diameter or radius of the wheel is determined.
