Abstract: Apparatus to produce a spatially and temporally uniform heat source is described and this is used to visualize latent fingerprints deposited onto thermal paper by raising the temperature of the paper. Results show an improvement over previous techniques, particularly when fingerprint deposits are aged or the developed fingerprints faint; visualization being enhanced by the use of an LED light source. An investigation of the components in fingerprint sweat likely to affect the solubility and hence colour change of the dye present in the thermal paper has shown that polar protic solvents able to donate a proton are favoured and a polar amino acid found commonly in eccrine fingerprint sweat (lysine) has been shown able to produce the desired colour change. Aged fingerprint deposits on thermal paper from a variety of sources up to four years old have been visualized with this technique.

Abstract: A lighting fixture for promoting the development of animals comprises a backlight, such as an LED or an array of LEDs, and a series of one or more retractable, rotatable or interchangeable lenses comprising quantum dots, such that the color and/or color temperature of the light emitted by the lighting fixture can be altered and optimized during animal development. A lighting fixture adapted for use on an aquarium may be in the form factor of a standard fluorescent tube and comprise one or more LEDs and a quantum dot-containing film for down-converting at least a portion of the light emitted by the LEDs so as to provide optimum wavelengths for photosynthesis by aquarium plants while simultaneously providing attractive display lighting for the aquarium fish.

Abstract: Nucleic acid amplification primers and methods for specific detection of influenza A and influenza B nucleic acid targets are disclosed. The primer-target binding sequences are useful for detection of influenza A and influenza B targets in a variety of amplification and hybridization reactions. The oligonucleotide sequences are able to differentiate between influenza A and influenza B strains through specific hybridization to one or the other virus strain, enabling specific detection of the presence of influenza A and/or influenza B in a specimen.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for a cutting apparatus that can be used to cut a target layer within a display module, e.g., a liquid crystal display that includes a protective cover glass. The cutting apparatus includes a platform that supports a track. The cutting apparatus also includes a linear slide that is configured to both hold the display module in place and travel along the track, where the movement of the linear slide along the track is driven by a mass that is in free fall. The cutting apparatus further includes a cutting wire, where the cutting wire is positioned relative to the target layer and oscillates to cut the target layer as the linear slide moves along the track. Additional techniques are disclosed and directed toward a method for operating the cutting apparatus described above.

Abstract: An integrated circuit includes a sensing module, a measuring module, a comparing module, and memory. The sensing module senses radiation incident on the integrated circuit. The measuring module communicates with the sensing module and measures an amount of the radiation incident on the integrated circuit. The comparing module communicates with the measuring module and compares the amount of the radiation to a predetermined threshold and generates an indication that the amount of the radiation is less than the predetermined threshold or that the amount of the radiation is greater than or equal to the predetermined threshold. The memory stores the indication.

Abstract: Methods for the production of an intergeneric hybrid plants and plants produced thereby. In certain aspects, intergeneric hybrid plants are produced by crossing a sorghum parent plant comprising a mutant sorghum iap allele with a second moncot plant. Methods for the use of such plants and products obtained therefrom are also provided.

The plate also includes a centrally located osteotomy support that maintains the opening between bone segments at a spaced relationship. The support can be integral to the plate, or can be modular, i.e. a separate and adjustable segment which can be changed to accommodate the desired geometry of the osteotomy site.

A rotating group is mounted in the movable frame. The rotating group has a passageway therethrough. Roller arms are pivotally mounted around a perimeter of the rotating group. The roller arms concentrically clamp the log relative to the rotating group to thereby rotate the log about its longitudinal axis simultaneously with selective rotation of the rotating group. At least one actuator horizontally and vertically translates the movable frame relative to the mainframe.
