Patent number: 11074615Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for reducing communications between servers and a mobile device and providing enhanced security and privacy to wireless beacon services. This can involve a broadcast device transmitting a beacon transmission using a short range wireless radio, such a Bluetooth or WiFi, and including a MAC address, a first unique identifier, and a beacon service identifier. The mobile device then selects one or more unique identifiers from received beacon transmissions, by filtering (that is, selecting) those beacon transmissions which include the beacon service identifier. The wireless device then takes further action, if the first unique identifier is present among the selected one or more unique identifiers, using stored information from the server. The stored information may be delivered to the wireless device in response to the wireless device sending the first unique identifier to a server, or the stored information may have been previously downloaded.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2020Date of Patent: July 27, 2021Assignee: Proxicom Wireless LLCInventors: James A. Patent number: 10805887Abstract: In a reverse link of a wireless CDMA communication system, a method of maintaining an idling mode connection between a field unit and a base transceiver station is provided using various techniques to maintain the idle mode connection at a reduced power level. A preferred embodiment computes a time slot or frame offset based on modulo function using a field unit identifier in order to distribute field unit maintenance transmissions among available slots or offsets. An alternate embodiment detects explicit signaling states changes at the physical layer and causes power target changes. A further embodiment transmits maintenance data during predetermined time intervals, coordinated between the field units and BTS, allowing power levels to be adjusted accordingly.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2019Date of Patent: October 13, 2020Assignee: IPR LICENSING, INC.Inventors: James A. Patent number: 10153885Abstract: A method is implemented by a subscriber unit in a wireless communication for establishing a network session. The subscriber unit encodes an acknowledgment message for transmission on a shared reverse link channel to a base station. Acknowledgment information associated with a received session tag at the subscriber unit to the base station is transmitted over the shared reverse link channel, on a condition that the session tag is received from a network server via the base station on a forward link channel and identified by the subscriber unit. The acknowledgment is transmitted on a reverse traffic channel on a condition that the session ID tag is not identified by the subscriber unit.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2016Date of Patent: December 11, 2018Assignee: INTEL CORPORATIONInventors: Kevin L. Patent number: 10064144Abstract: Combinations of correlation results are used to achieve detection of multiple coded signals at a receiver in a wireless communications system. The code applied to signals includes a lower rate code and a higher rate code. The lower rate code is a nested or tiered code such that it comprises at least two code sequences of the higher rate code. The received coded signal is correlated with the higher rate code using a single higher rate correlator to provide a higher rate code correlation result. The higher rate code correlation results are fed to two or more lower rate code correlators that combine multiple higher rate code-correlation results, each using a different lower rate code, to provide corresponding lower rate code correlation results. The presence of at least one coded signal or mutually exclusive coded signals can be determined from the lower rate code correlation results.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2015Date of Patent: August 28, 2018Assignee: INTEL CORPORATIONInventor: James A. Patent number: 9867101Abstract: Method and apparatus for base stations and subscriber units may allow for soft handoff of a CDMA reverse link utilizing an orthogonal channel structure. Subscriber units may transmit an orthogonally coded signal over a reverse link to the base stations. A given base station provides timing control of the timing offset of the reverse link signal. The timing offset may be an absolute timing offset or a differential timing offset. The absolute timing offset may be signaled using more bits than the differential timing offset. Subscriber units may receive power control commands from one or more base stations.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 2016Date of Patent: January 9, 2018Assignee: IPR Licensing, Inc.Inventors: James A. Patent number: 9807714Abstract: Multiple field units in a CDMA system are synchronized for communication with a base station using a shared forward and reverse link channel. Each field unit is assigned a time slot in a forward link channel to receive messages from the base station. Likewise, each field unit is assigned a time slot on a common reverse link channel for transmitting messages to the base station. Timing alignment among each of many field units and the base station is achieved by analyzing messages received at the base station in a corresponding time slot from each field unit. Thereafter, a message is transmitted in a corresponding time slot to a particular field unit from the base station for adjusting its timing so that future messages transmitted from the field unit are received in the appropriate time slot at the base station.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2016Date of Patent: October 31, 2017Assignee: INTEL CORPORATIONInventors: G. Rodney Nelson, Jr., John E. Hoffmann, Antoine J. Rouphael, James A. Proctor

Patent number: 9686713Abstract: A packet data system such as a TCP/IP network transmits packets containing a variety of data types along links in the network. Packets are transmitted in a stream between nodes interconnected by the links connections, which conform to a transport layer protocol such as TCP, UDP, and RSTP, and include wireless links, which transmit packets using a radio frequency (RF) medium. By examining the data in a packet, performance characteristics such as a port number are determined. The performance characteristics indicate the application type, and therefore, the data type, of the packets carried on the connection. Since certain data types, such as streaming audio and video, are more loss tolerant, determination of the data type is used to compute link control parameters for the wireless link which that are optimal to the type of data being transmitted over the link.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2015Date of Patent: June 20, 2017Assignee: IPR Licensing, Inc.Inventors: Kevin L.
