Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for automatically installing software onto a computer. The system includes a build server and build generating station, which may be the same computer. The build server is connected to a recipient computer via a network. The build server includes a library of software that is installable onto a recipient computer. The build generating station includes software for generating build plans, the build plans containing instructions for executing software installation programs. The build plans are transferable to a recipient computer, such as through a network or manual transfer of tangible media. The method involves creating a build plan defining software to be installed onto a recipient computer, transferring the build plan to the recipient computer, and executing the build plan on the recipient computer, where the recipient computer accesses files and data needed for the installation from a build server via a network.
