    Abstract: A model relating obstruction fading to meteorological variables allows more precise prediction of the optimum height of microwave antenna systems. This allows the annual outage time for a circuit to be held to less than a specified maximum value, while at the same time minimizing construction costs by avoiding excessive tower heights. The predictions are especially improved over prior art engineering assumptions in coastal regions.
