  • Patent number: 9510437
Abstract: A method and system for algebraically generating precise magnetic potentials along the axis of a cold atom waveguide. Sets of paired conductors may provide control over the even and odd contributions of the polynomial potential along one axis of the trap. Various field configurations can be realized, including double wells, triple wells, and filtered harmonic traps with suppression of higher order terms. An example of a system disclosed herein may be a suitable dual-layer atom chip, with modest experimental requirements, that allows independent tuning of terms up to fourth order.

  • Publication number: 20150001382
Abstract: Two versions of a new chip-scale apparatus and method for controlling pre-cooled neutral atoms, molecules and other neutral particles are disclosed. The first version sends a beam of neutral atoms between a pair of permanent magnets on either side of a chip-scale apparatus. A plurality of plane parallel wires, or current-carrying conductors, is placed below the beam, each wire perpendicular to the direction of the beam. Currents are sequentially applied to each wire to create a moving magnetic field to sequentially slow the atoms. The second version sends a beam of neutral atoms above a four-wire waveguide. A pair of back and forth plane parallel wires are placed at a lower and a higher level above the beam, the straight portions of each wire alternately crossing above and perpendicular to the beam of neutral atoms.

  • Patent number: 8240113
Abstract: A wedge apparatus for a stirrup for reducing alleviating pain on a horseback rider's knees and ankles, the stirrup comprising a pair of opposing side bars, a hangar bar portion and a footrest bar, the wedge apparatus comprising (a) a wedge associated with the footrest bar, the wedge having a lateral portion and a medial portion, the lateral portion being thicker than and tapering toward the medial portion; (b) an impact-absorbing material; and, (c) an attachment mechanism for attaching the wedge and the impact-absorbing material to the footrest bar.
