  • Publication number: 20240066590
Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to partial integrated core-shell investment casting molds that can be assembled into complete molds. Each section of the partial mold may contain both a portion of a core and portion of a shell. Each section can then be assembled into a mold for casting of a metal part. The partial integrated core-shell investment casting molds and the complete molds may be provided with filament structures corresponding to cooling hole patterns on the surface of the turbine blade or the stator vane, which provides a leaching pathway for the core portion after metal casting. The invention also relates to core filaments that can be used to supplement the leaching pathway, for example in a core tip portion of the mold.

  • Publication number: 20170154691
Abstract: A system is created to minimize damage to personnel and the environment following melt-down of the core of a pressurized water nuclear power plant (PWR) by removing heat from the melted core using solid state carbon dioxide (dry ice) rather than water in order to reduce the risk of inducing criticality in the subcritical assembly which could occur with the addition of water, a moderator, or the risk of an explosion due to the addition of hydrogen produced in the radiolysis of water or in the zirconium-water corrosion reaction; the system uses dry ice pellets manufactured at the site as part of the existing Emergency Core Cooling System (ECCS), or incorporated into the designs of new plants; carbon dioxide also acts as a fire suppressant.

  • Publication number: 20150122053
Abstract: This invention presents a Pitot tube design and methodology for determining the flow characteristics of fluids in subsonic and supersonic flow, including the effects of viscosity and turbulence. A new methodology, the Two-Fluid Theory, is developed which treats a real fluid as being composed of two ideal fluids: an inviscid fluid and a Poiseuille fluid. The resulting expression for flow velocity is applicable to a real fluid of any viscosity and to pipes of any L/D ratios, including entrance effects. Two designs, comprising annular, smooth-bore tubes, with devices for measuring total and static pressures, are presented: one for incompressible flow; one for compressible, supersonic flow. Allowance is made for the viscous component of the flow to become fully developed, in accordance with the Theory.

  • Publication number: 20150108280
Abstract: This invention provides a mechanism to create an artificial gravitational environment in a toroidal space station in which gravity may vary from zero, of advantage during repairs, manufacturing and research activities, and docking maneuvers, to values greater than one g for preparing astronauts for missions to other planets, or for other purposes. The mechanism couples the rotation of a high density cylinder in the center of the hub to that of the torus through gears such that the total angular momentum of the station is zero, allowing maneuvering of the station to be less complicated since gyroscopic effects are eliminated, and the level of gravity in the torus to be varied without the use of external thrusters. Gears are driven by motors attached to the hubs, providing redundancy for maintenance and emergency operations, with power provided by solar cells, a nuclear power plant, or other means.

  • Publication number: 20150047355
Abstract: This invention provides for a production and research facility, which can be known as Ciudad Sinergia, for solving three problems confronting the United States: the need for safe, clean sources of electrical power; the need for adequate supplies of fresh water in arid regions; and the need to dispose of combustible waste in a responsible manner. A synergistic solution to these problems is provided, without the use of nuclear fission, coal or oil. Electrical power is produced by a variety of methods concurrently, including steam turbine-generators, wind turbines, solar cells and collectors, biomass, geothermal and other sources. Burnable trash is provided by cities. Fresh water is produced from desalination plants on the coasts powered by the facility and piped to a man-made lake located at the facility and into the Colorado River. Ciudad Sinergia provides for an emergency source of electrical power and fresh water to California in the event of a major earthquake.

  • Publication number: 20120104175
Abstract: This invention presents a missile defensive system based on existing technology in which numerous non-explosive, meteor-like projectiles are launched in a shotgun manner from an orbiting space station at an enemy's missiles while on earth or in flight. Collateral damage is minimized with this system. This Spaced-based Anti-Missile System (SAMS) requires international cooperation. An International Orbital Treaty Organization (IOTO) is proposed.

  • Publication number: 20110266207
Abstract: This invention uses existing technology in a novel way to create a production facility, which can be known as Synergy City, to provide a solution to three problems confronting the United States, and other nations as well: the need for safe, clean, renewable sources of electrical power; the need for adequate supplies of fresh water; and the need to dispose of trash in a responsible manner. A synergistic solution to these problems is presented without the use of nuclear fission, coal or oil. A prototype of Synergy Cities is conceived in which reside scientists, engineers, technicians and their families, and others as necessary to support a viable American city in the state in which it is located. Experience in planning, developing and operating the prototype facility is to be factored into the design and construction of succeeding cities.

  • Publication number: 20110213745
Abstract: This invention uses existing technology in a novel way to create a repository in Antartica to hold samples of life on planet Earth. The purpose of the repository, which can be known as the Ark of Knowledge, is to provide an experimental database consisting of the remains of the human species, and others as deemed appropriate, with appropriate documentation, which future generations even ten thousand years from now can use to evaluate somatic and genetic changes in our species, and others, due to environmental or other causes.

  • Publication number: 20110186688
Abstract: This invention uses existing technology to provide a means to initiate and control the rotation of a space station of the type proposed by Werhner von Braun in the 1950s, without the need for an external torque. This is accomplished by creating an angular momentum vector within the hub of the station which is precisely equal and opposite to that of the rest of the station.

  • Publication number: 20110100137
Abstract: A pitot tube design and methodology are presented for use with compressible and incompressible fluids in subsonic and supersonic flow for a full range of viscosity and including the effect of turbulence on the flow characteristics and device response. Current practice assumes an inviscid fluid or a fluid having an unrealistically high viscosity (Poiseuille fluid) in the design and analyses of devices using pitot tubes. A new Two-Fluid Theory, supported by experimental data, is used for the design analysis.

  • Publication number: 20070160915
Abstract: A phase shift mask that corresponds to a layer of at least one semiconductor die has a substrate. A method thereof includes overlying a phase shifter film over the substrate. A permanent light calibration feature is positioned in close proximity to the at least one semiconductor die. The permanent light calibration feature has a predetermined area defined by an opening in the phase shifter film overlying the substrate. The predetermined area is within a range of area values and has a value that provides a light calibration value for use in testing with light for defects in the phase shift mask. An identification feature is positioned in close proximity to the permanent light calibration feature and is substantially larger than each of the permanent light calibration features. The identification feature provides a reference point to assist in locating a corresponding permanent light calibration feature.
