A bypass means is disposed within the central passageway and adapted to selectively by-pass at least a portion of the exhaust gas from the central passageway to the annular passageway. The EGHR heat exchanger also includes at least one fluid tube extending along a tube axis and having at least one lobe extending the length of the tube thereby defining a lobed tube. The lobed tube is twisted about the tube axis forming a twisted lobed tube which is then coiled about the longitudinal axis within the annular exhaust gas passageway.

A fan section extends from the inner rim and axially about the fan blades. The stators are disposed between the heat exchanger and the fan blades. The stators have a front edge facing the heat exchanger and a back edge facing the fan blades. Each stator is connected to the inner rim with the front edge extending radially outward and farther than the back edge.

The heat exchanger is disposed within the condenser and is in fluid communication with an engine for circulating an engine oil therebetween. The fan assembly includes a hub and a plurality of spaced reinforcing ribs that establish channels between a motor casing and the interior of the hub. A heat sink assembly is axially spaced from a hub bottom to define an air cavity that is in communication with a gap. The hub includes a tube that defines an air passage to establish communication with the cavity. A plurality of air vanes extend in a spiral path from the hub bottom and into the air cavity to move air through the air passage and create turbulence over the heat sink assembly. The air vanes move the air over the heat sink assembly and through the air passage to establish communication between the channels and the air cavity.

A first half (24) of the pump housing is integrally molded into the header tank (18) and a low point and across a smooth and wide transition. The second half of the pump housing (26) mates at a sealed circular seam to the first half, with an electric coolant pump (28) held closely inside the two. No fasteners are needed to mount the pump, and the assembly minimizes parts and potential leak points.

The net effect of a separate structure that physically blocks air flow is achieved merely by using existing components in a new way.
