  • Publication number: 20100055052
Abstract: This invention relates to a low loss liquid processing system used for manufacturing personal care and cleaning compositions, in particular oral care compositions such as dentifrice, mouthrinse and denture care products. The present process addresses manufacturing flexibility issues involved in making products to demand and the ability to proactively monitor intermediate compositions for quality assurance purposes. Specifically, the present manufacturing process provides faster variant turnaround times, shorter clean-up times between variants, significant material waste reduction and smaller effluent volumes than those of typical batch systems. As well, a process has been developed for more efficient addition of materials which are dissimilar in chemical composition and/or physical parameters to the original base material or of materials which may be temperature and shear sensitive.

  • Publication number: 20090269287
Abstract: Disclosed are oral care compositions, particularly thickened dentifrices in liquid, paste or gel form comprising a binding/thickening system that also function effectively as humectant agent thereby replacing a significant portion or all of traditional humectant components such as glycerin, sorbitol and other polyols. The binding/thickening system comprise select carrageenans that provide a water viscosity of at least about 20 mPa·s in a 1.5% solution at 25° C. and effective water-binding capacity to prevent significant water loss from the composition when exposed to air to cause unacceptable drying out. For example, the water-binding capacity of the carrageenan must be effective such that there is no more than about 0.75% water loss from a dentifrice composition when exposed to air for 30 minutes at room temperature conditions and 50% relative humidity.

  • Patent number: 5776437
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing predominately undissolved pyrophosphate and calcium peroxide compositions comprising the steps of: (a) preparing a mixture of a soluble fluoride ion source and one or more aqueous carrier materials; (b) adding tetrasodium pyrophosphate and calcium peroxide, all at once or in portions, under conditions wherein less than about 20% of the total pyrophosphate and calcium peroxide are dissolved in the mixture, and wherein any further remaining aqueous carrier materials not added to the mixtures during step (a) are added in whole or in part in step (b) or thereafter, either by themselves or with any remaining amount of the tetrasodium pyrophosphate or calcium peroxide under conditions such that less then about 20% of the total pyrophosphate and calcium peroxide are dissolved in the mixture; and (c) heating the mixture.
