  • Publication number: 20070080253
Abstract: A data storage tape cartridge has a housing, at least one tape reel assembly rotatably disposed within the housing, a storage tape wound about a tape winding surface of the tape reel assembly, and a brake assembly. The brake assembly includes a brake plate and a brake button. When the brake assembly is an unlocked position, a depression in the brake plate mates with a protruding member of the brake button to limit vibration of the brake assembly, thereby limiting noisy vibration of cartridge.

  • Publication number: 20070066088
Abstract: A data storage device is disclosed. The data storage device includes a continuous band, and a memory device assembly disposes within the continuous band. The continuous band defines an internal housing recess formed by opposing sides extending between first and second major surfaces, and an access window formed in one of the first and second major surfaces and communicating with the internal housing recess. In this regard, the memory device assembly is disposed in the internal housing recess, and a flexing of the continuous band exposes a data/power port of the memory device assembly through the access window.

  • Publication number: 20060169550
Abstract: An electromagnetic brake apparatus is provided. The invention includes a coil body, an electromagnetic coil and a spring housed in the coil body. The invention also includes a brake pad, and a mounting plate spaced from the coil body and supporting the brake pad. The invention also includes an armature plate between the spring and the brake pad in electromagnetic communication with the electromagnetic coil which is drawn toward the coil body and away from the brake pad when the electromagnetic coil increases the magnetic field and which is forced by the spring away from the coil body and into contact with the brake pad when the electromagnetic coil decreases the magnetic field. The invention also includes an annular spacer ring extending circumferentially around an axis of the coil body between the coil body and the mounting plate which fixes the amount of separation between the coil body and the mounting plate.

  • Publication number: 20050106950
Abstract: A high voltage electrical connection includes an electrical receptacle connector and a mating electrical plug connector. The electrical receptacle connector includes a receptacle that is mounted over a hole in the casing and fastened thereto with a plurality of terminated electrical leads that are attached to an internal component of an electrical device inside the casing and threaded through a hole in the casing. The receptacle has a chamber including an inlet at one end that is aligned with the hole in casing and an outlet at the other end. The electrical receptacle connector also includes a terminal holder and a terminal housing, both of which are made of electrical insulation material. The holder retains the plurality of terminals, of the respective leads is inserted into the chamber through the outlet of the receptacle and retained in the chamber. The terminal housing is then inserted into the chamber via the outlet with its flange being disposed in the outlet.

  • Publication number: 20050077409
Abstract: A tape reel assembly for a tape drive system component, such as a data storage tape cartridge, is described that includes a hub. The hub defines an inner surface and a tape winding surface, and at least a portion of the hub is made of plastic. The tape winding surface has an effective radial modulus of greater than 0.3 million pounds-per-square-inch.

  • Patent number: 6250632
Abstract: An apparatus and method for sorting cards into a predetermined sequence. One embodiment provides a deck holding area in which cards are held for presenting a card to a read head for reading the characters on the face of the card. The apparatus also has a tray having a sequence of slots and a card moving mechanism for moving the presented card from the deck holding area into one of the slots. The tray is connected to a tray positioning mechanism for selectively positioning the tray to receive a card in one of the slots from the card moving mechanism. A controller is connected to the read bead, the card moving mechanism, and the tray positioning mechanism. The controller controls the reading of each of the cards by the read head and identifies the value of each card read, and also controls the card moving mechanism to move each of the cards to a slot of the tray positioned by the tray positioning mechanism according to the predetermined sequence of values.
