  • Patent number: 8783043
Abstract: A combined cycle power generation system (10) includes a steam turbine (14, 16, 18), a combustion system (12) including a compressor (24), a combustion chamber (26), a gas turbine (28), and a HRSG (20) to generate steam with energy from the combustion turbine. A flow line (60, 70) passes superheated steam into the combustion chamber. In an associated method a first source of power is provided via a combustion process having a variable reaction temperature in a first turbine. A second source of power is provided via a second turbine. Components of the system are placed in a mode of increasing power output with steam generated from the HRSG, during which a portion of the steam is provided into a combustion chamber associated with operation of the second turbine.

  • Patent number: 8788579
Abstract: An application instance identifier is employed with various systems and methods in order to provide a requestor with continuous access to a resource when operating in a client clustered environment. A requestor residing on a first client may attempt to access a resource. The first client sends a request to access the resource. The request may be associated with an application instance identifier that identifies the requestor. At some point, the first client fails and the requestor is associated with a second client via a failover mechanism. The second client sends a second request to access the resource on behalf of the requestor. The second request is associated with the requestor's application instance identifier. The application instance identifier is used to identify the second request as belonging to the same requestor as the first request, thereby granting the second request to access the resource while avoiding a conflict situation.

  • Patent number: 8789017
Abstract: A mechanism for using stream objects in stream processing operations is provided. A definition of a class of stream objects used in stream processing algorithms can define output and update operations included in instances of the stream objects and the API (application programming interface) through which they may be called. The class definition may further include the type of state information to be held by the instantiated stream objects. An instance of the stream object may be instantiated in a text-based computing environment and the operations may be used to process streams of data.

  • Patent number: 8783937
Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to several embodiments of a new illumination device using a plurality of LEDs, the device is designed to better diffuse heat produced from a heating driver circuitry and the LEDs in a way that allows for either the operating or equilibrium temperatures of the heat sensitive elements as part of the device to be subject to less stringent temperature increases and therefore improve the viability and energy performance of the device. The new design includes toroid-shaped external rings for the plurality of LEDs and a middle opening for the driver circuitry. The new design further includes fins and the use of different spaces and openings within the housing to help control the flow of heat by way of thermal conduction, thermal convection, or thermal irradiation.

  • Patent number: 8788271
Abstract: One or more voice-enabled user interfaces include a user interface, and a voice extension module associated with the user interface. The voice extension module is configured to voice-enable the user interface and includes a speech recognition engine, a preprocessor, and an input handler. The preprocessor registers with the speech recognition engine one or more voice commands for signaling for execution of one or more semantic operations that may be performed using a first user interface. The input handler receives a first voice command and communicates with the preprocessor to execute a semantic operation that is indicated by the first voice command. The first voice command is one of the voice commands registered with the speech recognition engine by the preprocessor.
