Abstract: The present invention uses a common, hybrid system platform to provide a generalized medical image processing system that can handle the existing medical image application as it is and route the compute intensive medical image processing to a multi0core processor/processing system. The invention allows the processing platform to be shared among healthcare system such as mammography, X-ray, CT Scan MRI, two-photon, laser microscopy, digital pathology, etc. It also allows the processing platform to deliver medical images to a variety of client devices, such as a desktop computer or a handheld device, through the network without high-performance graphical display capabilities because the rendering of the medical images is performed on the Cell BE based platform of the invention.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of treating acute lung injuries, such as acute lung injury induced by peritonitis during sepsis, acute lung injury induced by intravenous bacteremia during sepsis, acute lung injury caused by smoke inhalation, acute lung injury occurring in a premature infant with deficiency of surfactant, acute lung injury caused by oxygen toxicity or acute lung injury caused by barotraumas from mechanical ventilation, using an ER? selective ligand such as 2-(3-fluoro-4-hydroxyphenyl)-7-vinyl-1,3-benzoxazol-5-ol or 3-(3-fluoro-4-hydroxy-phenyl)-7-hydroxy-naphthalene-1-carbonitrile. The present invention further relates to use of ER? selective ligands or compositions thereof for the prevention of acute lung injuries in those being at risk thereof.

Abstract: A system for developing a patient care plan and executing the patient care plan and assessing the success of the planning and execution of the patient care plan. A coordinated, collaborative approach to the development of a patient care plan at the admission of a patient to a health care facility and may include a plurality of healthcare professionals in the development of the plan. The plan may include a plurality of phases spanning from admission through treatment and discharge of the patient from the health care facility. A system of executing the patient care plan with specific milestones established before transitioning the treatment from one stage of the care plan to the next stage of the care plan. A method of developing, executing and assessing the execution of a patient care plan including a plurality of phases of patient care and milestones to be met before transitioning to the next phase of care.

Abstract: A supplemental spine fixation device and method is used in association with a primary spine fixation device. The supplemental spine fixation device includes a guide and spacer for distracting apart adjacent spinous processes and the device has hook members which hook about the first and second spinous processes. With the spinous processes distracted and the hook members about the spinous processes, the hook members can be rigidly secured to a hub in order to rigidly affix the spinous processes about the spacer. The rigidity between the spinous processes assures that the vertebral bodies will be held rigidly in place in order to promote bone growth and fusion. Further additional freedom of movement between the spacer and hub is accomplished with the spacer being pivotably mounted relative to the hub. The hooks have a tissue distracting lead-in guide for allowing the hooks to be easily urged between spinous processes.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for converting organic waste feed streams into usable liquid fuels by adjusting the ratio of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen in the effluent gas of a high temperature waste treatment system. A pressure swing adsorption (PSA) unit is used to remove carbon dioxide from the effluent gas of a high temperature waste treatment system, while leaving carbon monoxide and hydrogen, thereby producing a gas stream amenable to the production of methanol and other liquid fuels using commercially available catalytic reactors.

Abstract: Disclosed are compositions, methods and kits to control bleeding through the use of an internal occluder based on polymeric solutions, including use of reverse thermosensitive polymers in nephron-sparing surgeries, which produces a completely bloodless surgical field, allowing speedy resection. In certain embodiments, after a certain amount of time, the flow gradually resumes, with no apparent adverse consequences to the kidney. In certain embodiments, return of blood flow may be accelerated by cooling the kidney. The compositions, methods and kits for perfusive organ hemostasis can also be used to simplify or to enable other organ surgeries or interventional procedures, including liver surgery, prostate surgery, brain surgery, surgery of the uterus, spleen surgery and any surgery on any highly vascularized organs.

Abstract: A method of inducing bone formation in a subject in need of such inducement comprises the steps of mechanically inducing an increase in osteoblast activity in the subject and elevating blood concentration of at least one bone anabolic agent in the subject. The method steps may be performed in any order, but in sufficient time proximity that the elevated concentration of the anabolic agent and the mechanically induced increase in osteoblast activity overlaps. The method may additionally comprise providing the subject with an elevated blood concentration of at least one antiresorptive agent, wherein the elevated concentration is sufficient to prevent resorption of new bone growth produced due to the osteoblast activity. Use of the method permits targeting of specific bones of the subject for bone production and preservation, faster bone production and earlier discontinuation of bone anabolic pharmaceuticals. Kits adapted for performing the method are provided.

Abstract: Methods are described for implementing a plugin in a blog or other structured online document. One embodiment of the method includes providing an interface between a blog-editing application and a plugin, receiving an indication that the plugin is to be invoked; presenting a user interface based on the plugin to receive settings that define characteristics associated with an object to be rendered in a blog post, receiving the settings, creating an editable code fragment based on the settings that can be utilized to present a rendering associated with the plugin, and presenting the rendering in the blog-editing application.

Abstract: A gap set device for an electronic component handler is provided. The electronic component handler includes a linear bearing having a test accessory mounted to it. The test accessory is movable between a first position away from a tool and a second position closer to the tool. A setting post is extendable from the test accessory such that when the test accessory moves from the first position to the second position the setting post can fix a gap between the test accessory and the tool.

Abstract: High-current, compact, flexible conductors containing high temperature superconducting (HTS) tapes and methods for making the same are described. The HTS tapes are arranged into a stack, a plurality of stacks are arranged to form a superstructure, and the superstructure is twisted about the cable axis to obtain a HTS cable. The HTS cables of the invention can be utilized in numerous applications such as cables employed to generate magnetic fields for degaussing and high current electric power transmission or distribution applications.

Abstract: A platform mounted drive train for a professional carpet and floor cleaner system, the platform mounted drive train being formed of a rigid platform; a power plant having two spaced apart mounting structures secured to the rigid platform; a vacuum blower having one mounting structure secured to the rigid platform; a rigid structural connector coupled between the power plant and the vacuum blower for rigidly securing the vacuum blower in fixed lateral, angular and rotational alignment with the power plant; and a coupler assembly interfaced between an output drive of the power plant and an input drive of the vacuum blower. The drive train is optionally mounted using one or more vibration isolators.

Abstract: A base board heater having a dust screen or dust filter, located upstream of the heat convection inducing heat exchanger unit, captures the airborne dust particles prior to their entrance into the heat unit chamber where the heat exchanger is located. The use of a dust screen so located, protects the heat exchanger from the dust particles, preventing dust buildup and accumulation, and dust particle distribution into the atmosphere of the room.

Abstract: In an exemplary, non-limiting embodiment, a lock washer installation tool includes first and second handles that are rotatable about a pivot point. First and second opposable jaws are attached to the first and second handles. The first and second jaws are laterally spaced apart from each other, and the first and second opposable jaws are movable toward each other and away from each other responsive to rotation of the first and second handles about the pivot point. A holder is attached to the first jaw, and the holder is configured to receive and hold therein a lock washer.

Abstract: A marine seismic exploration method and system comprised of continuous recording, self-contained ocean bottom pods characterized by low profile casings. An external bumper is provided to promote ocean bottom coupling and prevent fishing net entrapment. Pods are tethered together with flexible, non-rigid, non-conducting cable used to control pod deployment. Pods are deployed and retrieved from a boat deck configured to have a storage system and a handling system to attach pods to cable on-the-fly. The storage system is a juke box configuration of slots wherein individual pods are randomly stored in the slots to permit data extraction, charging, testing and synchronizing without opening the pods. A pod may include an inertial navigation system to determine ocean floor location and a rubidium clock for timing. The system includes mathematical gimballing. The cable may include shear couplings designed to automatically shear apart if a certain level of cable tension is reached.

Abstract: A metered-use computer is operable in a number of states or modes to accommodate manufacture, test, operation and end-of-life. During manufacturing, a security module may be set to a non-metered mode, where no measurements are taken. At the end of the manufacturing process, the security module may be set to an active mode where metering and measurement of the computer are enforced. When terms of a purchase contract or other user agreement are satisfied, the computer may be set to a non-enforcement state where all metering and metering-related security are disabled. A one-time reset of the active mode is supported to allow end-of-line quality assurance testing.

One embodiment of a method includes identifying a page recipe comprising one or more page properties and one or more content module definitions, each content module definition defining an amount of content to be displayed in a content module to be displayed on a results page, the location of the content module to be displayed on the results page, and a content source from which to obtain content to be displayed in the content module, and using the page recipe to generate a results page to be displayed on a search client.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are various embodiments that related to a surgical retractor. In certain embodiments, the retractor may include a blade holder with a single blade tilting mechanism capable of adjusting the angle of a plurality of pivoting blades relative to the blade holder. In certain embodiments, the adjustment occurs from the proximal face or top of the retractor. In other embodiments, blade supports are used to couple the blade holder to a variety of removable blades of different lengths. In certain embodiments, the blades may be a translucent material capable of transmitting light from a proximal portion of the blade to a distal portion. In some embodiments, the distance between the blade holder and the removable blades may be adjusted.

Abstract: A process is provided for removing polymer from a backside of a workpiece. The process includes supporting the workpiece on the backside in a vacuum chamber while leaving at least a peripheral annular portion of the backside exposed. The process further includes confining gas flow at the edge of the workpiece within a gap at the edge of the workpiece on the order of about 1% of the diameter of the chamber, the gap defining a boundary between an upper process zone containing the wafer front side and a lower process zone containing the wafer backside. The process also includes providing a polymer etch precursor gas underneath the backside edge of the workpiece and applying RF power to a region underlying the backside edge of the workpiece to generate a first plasma of polymer etch species concentrated in an annular ring concentric with and underneath the backside edge of the workpiece.

Abstract: Methods for fabricating light emitting diode (LED) chips comprising providing a plurality of LEDs typically on a substrate. Pedestals are deposited on the LEDs with each of the pedestals in electrical contact with one of the LEDs. A coating is formed over the LEDs with the coating burying at least some of the pedestals. The coating is then planarized to expose at least some of the buried pedestals while leaving at least some of said coating on said LEDs. The exposed pedestals can then be contacted such as by wire bonds. The present invention discloses similar methods used for fabricating LED chips having LEDs that are flip-chip bonded on a carrier substrate and for fabricating other semiconductor devices. LED chip wafers and LED chips are also disclosed that are fabricated using the disclosed methods.

Abstract: A data processing system includes a plurality of processing units each having a respective point-to-point communication link with each of multiple others of the plurality of processing units but fewer than all of the plurality of processing units. Each of the plurality of processing units includes interconnect logic, coupled to each point-to-point communication link of that processing unit, that broadcasts operations received from one of the multiple others of the plurality of processing units to one or more of the plurality of processing units.
