  • Patent number: 10451018
Abstract: Systems and methods for a vehicle comprising a stop-start system and in particular to a motor vehicle having a belt driven integrated starter-generator (BISG) drivingly connected to an accessory drive belt of an engine of the motor vehicle are provided. The BISG may be used during an engine stop event to preposition the crank at an angle from which it facilitates rapid restart of the engine and during engine running the BISG may be used as a power generator.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 14, 2014
Date of Patent: October 22, 2019
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: James Andrew Straker, Ian Robinson
  • Patent number: 9133810
Abstract: A method of starting an engine is disclosed in which two or more starter motors are used to start the engine in an alternating sequence so as to equalize wear and reduce the wear of each starter motor by a factor equal to the number of starter motors provided. The starter motors are preferably positioned so as to minimize overlap between wear patterns produced by the starter motors on a cooperating ring gear 8 thereby extending the life of the ring gear.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 30, 2013
Date of Patent: September 15, 2015
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Donatus Andreas Josephine Kees, James Andrew Straker, Daniel Benjamin Kok

  • Publication number: 20150053493
Abstract: A subframe assembly for a motor vehicle includes a suspension subframe defining a void and an ancillary device of the vehicle disposed at least partially within the void. The ancillary device may be a battery assembly or a urea tank. The battery assembly may include a heat exchange system, such as a fan configured to direct air flow to the battery assembly. At least a portion of the ancillary device may be integral to the suspension subframe.
