  • Patent number: 4952594
Abstract: The administration internally to humans of certain imidazol derivatives, especially 1-(Beta-hydroxyethyl)-2-methyl-5-nitro-imidazole (metgronidazole); N"-cyano-N-methyl-N'-[2[[(5-methyl-1H-imidazol-4-yl) methyl]thio]ethyl]-guanidine (cimetidine); 6-[1-methyl-4-nitro-imidazol-5-yl)thio] purine (azathioprine); L-(-)-2,3,5,6-Tetrahydro-6-phenyl-imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole (levamisole), or salts of the above compounds, is an effective therapeutic treatment for multiple sclerosis, both acute and chronic. The imidazole moeity is theorized to directly inhibit spread of the virus theorized to cause multiple sclerosis. Treatment of multiple sclerosis with metronidazole with one bolus dose on a frequency of once a day or less and with cimetidine on a frequency of twice per day has been found to be highly efficatious with minimal suppression of the patient's natural immune system and minimal long term peripheral nerve damage.

  • Patent number: 4932461
Abstract: Apparatus for the vacuum, countergravity casting of metal in shell molds including a gas permeable shell mold secured to the mouth of a vacuum box by a plurality of keepers on the ends of rotatable shafts reciprocably slidable through the ceiling of the vacuum box, which keepers are adapted for insertion into and rotation within an anchoring cavity in the mold such that the keeper engages a portion of the mold overhanging the cavity to secure the mold to the box.

  • Patent number: 4871759
Abstract: A method of treatment for mesenteric adenitis in humans is provided. The method comprises the administration of antiviral agents comprising pharmaceutical derivatives of imidazole. Specifically, mesenteric adenitis is treated with orally administered dosages of metronidazole or cimetidene. When the treatment is with metronidazole, a preferred dosage for average sized adult humans is approximately 1,000 to 2,000 milligrams administered once a day. When the antiviral agent administered is cimetidine, the preferred dosage is 900 to 1,200 milligrams given two times a day. When either cimetidine or metronidazole are given, concurrent treatment with zinc is suggested as a method of speeding recovery.

  • Patent number: 4865113
Abstract: Apparatus for the vacuum-assisted, countergravity casting of thin-walled metal parts includes a plurality of expendable casting molds supported on a top side of a reusable drag slab. Each casting mold includes a mold cavity and a mold ingate passage extending from the mold cavity into registry with a respective underlying slab ingate passage that extends between the top side and a bottom side of the drag slab and that optionally includes a molten metal filter therein. When the bottom side of the drag slab is immersed in an underlying molten metal pool with the mold cavities evacuated, the molten metal is drawn upwardly through each slab ingate passage and the molten metal filter therein and then through each mold ingate passage registered therewith into each mold cavity. The molten metal filter in each slab ingate passage removes inclusion-forming impurities from the molten metal as it is drawn upwardly into each mold cavity.

  • Patent number: 4862945
Abstract: An apparatus for the vacuum, countergravity casting of molten metal includes a bottom drag member and a casting mold member thereon engaged together at a parting plane. A valve member is disposed adjacent the parting plane in an ingate to a mold cavity formed at least in part in the casting mold member and is movable between a valve seat on the bottom drag member and a stop surface on the casting mold member to permit filling of the mold cavity in countergravity manner from an underlying molten metal pool when the bottom drag member is immersed therein and to prevent backflow of the molten metal from the mold cavity when the bottom drag member is withdrawn from the pool after mold filling and before solidification of the molten metal in the mold cavity.

  • Patent number: 4825933
Abstract: Apparatus for the vacuum countergravity casting of metal in shell molds including a gas-permeable upper shell mold portion secured to a bottom mold portion and together secured to the mouth of a vacuum box by a plurality of threadable mounting sites engaged by self-tapping threads on the ends of rotatable shafts reciprocally slidable through the ceiling of the box. Each shaft has a stop fixed thereto at a predetermined distance above the threads for pressing the upper shell mold portion into sealing engagement with the bottom mold portion in order to eliminate the need to glue the upper and lower mold portions together.

  • Patent number: 4809767
Abstract: Apparatus for the countergravity casting of molten metal by immersing of gas-permeable multi-piece mold in an underlying pot of molten metal includes a motor actuated plunger for pressing the pieces into sealing engagement with each other without the need for glue therebetween and for resisting destructive flexure of the mold incident to the application of casting vacuum thereto.

  • Patent number: 4355128
Abstract: Economical durable molded articles are prepared by mixing a hardenable resin system, gypsum filler and glass fibers, molding the desired article from the mixture, and hardening the molded article by heat or by the use of a hardening agent. The resin system comprises at least one hardenable resin, for example urea formaldehyde resin, and can include a second hardenable resin, for example polyvinyl acetate resin. The gypsum filler may be an economical by-product of phosphate refining. The glass fibers may be an economical by-product from the manufacture of bulk filter media. The constituents of the resin system and their proportions are chosen to impart desired surface finishes to the molded article. Coloring agents and other additives may also be added to affect the surface finish and appearance.
