Patent number: 6324438Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for rapidly prototyping a three-dimensional object from a plurality of sequential layers wherein each layer is cut after being fused with a preceding layer. A first sequential layer having a peripheral edge and an exposed face is cut from a first sheet of material using a machine tool path generated from a CAD model of the object. A solvent is then applied to a face of a second sheet of material. The second sheet of material is placed in contacting face-to-face relation with the first sequential layer such that the solvent fuses the face of the second sheet of material with the exposed face of the first sequential layer. A second sequential layer having a peripheral edge and an exposed face is cut from the second sheet of material along a respective machine tool path generated for the second sequential layer. The above procedure is repeated until all remaining layers of the prototype part are produced.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 1999Date of Patent: November 27, 2001Assignee: North Carolina State UniversityInventors: Denis R. Patent number: 5552167Abstract: High linolenic edible oils such as soybean oil and canola are stabilized by blending the oils with rice bran oil in amounts effective to render the oils stable to oxidation. Preferred embodiments employ from about 0.5% to about 10%, more narrowly from about 2% to about 5%, by weight rice bran oil specially processed to retain unsaponifiable matter. In one embodiment, physically refined rice bran oil is used. The natural stabilized oil is especially useful as a spray oil for crackers, nuts, chips, and other snack products.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1995Date of Patent: September 3, 1996Assignee: Nabisco, Inc.Inventors: James B. Patent number: 5405836Abstract: Breath freshening, dry pet foods, e.g., pet biscuits are prepared by topically applying a breath freshening amount of a water-soluble zinc salt to a farinaceous-based baked or cooked pet food. The amount of the water-soluble zinc salt is sufficient so that said topically-applied water-soluble zinc salt contains from about 2 mg to about 6 mg of zinc ion per 10 gm of the breath freshening pet food. Consumption of the dry pet food controls the malodorous breath of the animal. Rawhide chew coated in the same manner also provides breath freshening when chewed.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1993Date of Patent: April 11, 1995Assignee: Nabisco, Inc.Inventors: Thomas Richar, James B. Taylor, Jan Karwowski, Felice Scaglione, James E. Roe, Michael S. Otterburn, Wayne Steensen, Henry C. Spanier, Richard L. Antrim, Leif Solheim

Patent number: 5080920Abstract: Bloom resistant cookies containing cocoa powder and/or chocolate liquor as a flavoring are produced without lard using a vegetable fat or shortening having a solid fat content of about 2.3% to about 21.6% at 70.degree. F. and about 0.2% to about 11.6% at 85.degree. F. The preferred fats are partially hydrogenated soybean oil, partially hydrogenated cotton seed oil and mixtures thereof. The fats further have an oleic acid content of about 52% to 62% and a combined linolenic acid and gadoleic acid content of 1.2% or less. The cookies exhibit similar color, taste and texture to control samples made with lard without experiencing any fat bloom.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1990Date of Patent: January 14, 1992Assignee: Nabisco Brands, Inc.Inventors: James B. Patent number: 4963368Abstract: Highly unsaturated fatty acid compounds, and derivatives thereof, are stabilized against oxidation with a water activated oxidoreductase enzyme. The fatty acid containing component is preferably microencapsulated in a wall member which comprises the enzyme.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1988Date of Patent: October 16, 1990Assignee: Nabisco Brands, Inc.Inventors: Richard L. Antrim, Norman E. Lloyd, James B. Taylor

Patent number: 4963385Abstract: Food emulsions containing highly unsaturated fatty acids or derivatives thereof are stabilized against oxidative attack upon the unsaturated components by using a stabilizer system in the water phase of the emulsion which comprises either a sugar or sugar alcohol or a sugar or sugar alcohol and a metal-ion chelator.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1989Date of Patent: October 16, 1990Assignee: Nabisco Brands, Inc.Inventors: Richard L. Patent number: 4961939Abstract: The present invention is directed to water-in-oil and oil-in-water emulsions containing fish oil which are stabilized by enzyme systems which prevents or retards against the deleterious formation of malodorous alcohols and aldehydes thereby eliminating the undesired odor and off-flavor associated with the formation of these organic products. The enzyme system contemplated by the present invention include compositions of (a) aldehyde dehydrogenase plus alcohol dehydrogenase plus nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD); (b) aldehyde oxidase plus alcohol oxidase plus catalase; and (c) xanthine oxidase plus alcohol oxidase plus catalase.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1989Date of Patent: October 9, 1990Assignee: Nabisco Brands, Inc.Inventors: Richard L. Antrim, James B. Taylor

Patent number: 4948619Abstract: The process of treating baked shredded wheat with a solvent spray using a potable solvent, preferably ethanol. The solvent is subsequently evaporated from the treated shredded wheat. The treatment retards the oxidation of the oil in the shredded wheat, which consequentially, substantially slows down rancification of such oil. In this manner, the shelf-stability of the shredded wheat product is significantly extended.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1989Date of Patent: August 14, 1990Assignee: Nabisco Brands, Inc.Inventors: Richard L. Antrim, James B. Taylor

Patent number: 4834988Abstract: A hot cereal is prepared by treating a cereal grain with a slurry resulting from the treatment of a grain-water mixture with starch-converting enzymes, heating the mixture until the grain is at least partially cooked, flaking the cooked cereal, and, optionally, agglomerating the flakes. It is preferred that the flakes be agglomerated for packaging in single-sized point of sale containers. This cereal has a rich, nutty flavor and when prepared does not have a gummy texture.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1987Date of Patent: May 30, 1989Assignee: Nabisco Brands, Inc.Inventors: Jan Karwowski, Anna M. Magliacano, James B. Taylor

Patent number: 4699399Abstract: A tandem-axle walking beam suspension is disclosed which uses bushings of novel design in the bores at opposite ends of the walking beams. The cores of the bushings have projecting ends each of which fits between the bifurcated end of one of the pair of axle bracket arms which straddle one end of each walking beam. A removable fastener, such as a nut and bolt is used to connect each projecting bushing core end and its associated bifurcated axle bracket arm. The resulting new system of connecting the equalizer or walking beams to the axle brackets provides easier serviceability of the beam end connections during repair or replacement and by using shims in the connections provides a convenient means of suspension alignment.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1986Date of Patent: October 13, 1987Assignee: The Boler CompanyInventors: Roger D.
