  • Patent number: 9468502
Abstract: Instrument that is made to match the perimeter shape of a Patient Specific Knee Implant (PSKI) with features for locating holes in the distal femur such that the posts or lugs in the femoral implant locate the femoral implant centered medial-laterally within an acceptable degree of precision to prevent overhang of either the medial or lateral side of the femoral implant over the perimeter of the distal femur bone resections. Patient specific implant technology, in which a three-dimensional model of at least a portion of a bone is accessed and a three-dimensional solution volume is defined based on resection cuts used in fitting an implant on the portion of the bone. An outline representation of at least a portion of an outer surface of a periphery of the resultant bone volume is determined and the outline representation is used in one or more operations related to instrument matching.

  • Publication number: 20160206327
Abstract: A surgical handpiece with a rotating spindle for receiving the coupling head of a cutting accessory. The spindle has a proximal bore with faces shaped to transfer torque to the cutting accessory. A distal bore extends forward from and the proximal bore to the distal end of the spindle. The distal bore is shaped so the outer perimeter of the bore is located radially outwardly from the proximal bore. One or more openings are formed in the spindle open into the distal bore. The openings are forward of the proximal end of the distal bore. A locking member is able to move in and out of each opening so as to move in and out of the distal bore. The locking members, when seated in the distal bore releasable hold the cutting accessory seated in the distal and proximal bores to the spindle.

  • Patent number: 8419760
Abstract: A surgical handpiece with a rotating spindle for receiving the coupling head of a surgical attachment or a cutting accessory. A gear train has plural drive heads that simultaneously rotate at different speeds. A clutch assembly has pins that move along the length of the spindle. The clutch assembly sets the position of the pins so they will engage one of the drive heads. The spindle rotates with the drive head with which the clutch pins are engaged.
