Patent number: 10216614Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for sampling in a distributed code tracing system. A sampling service receives a segment of a code trace corresponding to a request submitted to a particular application of a plurality of applications hosted in a computing environment. The code trace documents at least one call to at least one component service of the particular application to respond to the request. The sampling service determines whether to forward the segment to a trace processing system or to discard the segment based at least in part on at least one sampling parameter.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2016Date of Patent: February 26, 2019Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Anssi Alaranta, Rohit Banga, James Bowman, Sandra McMullen, Jeffrey Hoffman

Publication number: 20160140522Abstract: Described herein are methods and systems for administering a life insurance policy that provide an alternative to the traditional approach by querying a client for a set of coverage objectives and using a set of algorithms to automatically adjust billed premiums on an ongoing basis to maintain the client-specified coverage objectives—a methodology referred to herein as “dynamic billing.” Dynamic billing enables clients to take corrective action sooner than it would otherwise be taken and/or provides an automated mechanism or prompt for clients to take such action on an ongoing basis. For example, in certain embodiments, the disclosed technology computes adjusted premiums and allows the policy owner to be billed the amount required to keep his/her policy on track with his/her current insurance policy objectives.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 17, 2015Publication date: May 19, 2016Inventors: Matthew Gabriel, James Bowman, Neal Kearins

Publication number: 20060272153Abstract: A substrate assembly is stuffed into a converter outer shell to form a catalytic converter having a desired gap bolt density (GBD) value. The substrate assembly is formed by wrapping and taping a mat around a catalytic substrate. A predetermined pressure is applied to the substrate assembly and an outer diameter of the substrate assembly is measured at this predetermined pressure. A GBD value is predicted based on this measurement and if the GBD value is acceptable the substrate assembly is stuffed into the converter outer shell.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 3, 2005Publication date: December 7, 2006Inventors: James Bowman, Peter Kroner
-
Publication number: 20060024215Abstract: A catalytic converter comprises an outer tube, a pair of catalyzed substrates positioned in the outer tube, and a heat shield positioned in the outer tube between the catalyzed substrates. A method of assembling the catalytic converter is also disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 2, 2004Publication date: February 2, 2006Inventors: Peter Kroner, James Bowman, Kevin Barnard

Patent number: 6329996Abstract: A method and apparatus for synchronizing the execution of a sequence of graphics pipelines is provided. For a representative embodiment a sequence of graphics pipelines are connected in a daisy-chain sequence. Each pipeline operation can be controlled to operated in one of two modes. The first is a local mode where the pipeline outputs its own digital video data. The second is a pass-through mode where the pipeline outputs digital video data received from preceding graphics pipelines. The pipelines are configured to allow an application executing on a host process to select the next pipeline that will enter local mode operation. The pipeline that is selected to enter local mode operation asserts a local ready signal when it is ready to begin outputting its digital video information. Each of the pipelines monitors the state of a global ready signal. When the global ready signal becomes asserted it means that the pipeline that is selected to enter local mode operation is ready.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 1999Date of Patent: December 11, 2001Assignee: Silicon Graphics, Inc.Inventors: Andrew D. Bowen, Gregory C. Buchner, Remi Simon Vincent Arnaud, Daniel T. Chian, James Bowman

Patent number: 5028191Abstract: A self-locking threaded member which may be internally or externally threaded at least along a portion of its surface includes an aperture provided longitudinally along the axis of the member but spaced radially from the center thereof. The aperture is preferably located such that a portion thereof passes through adjacent flanks of the threads and includes a portion which is radially positioned to pass through the base of the valleys. The aperture receives a locking member in the form of a pin which extends axially of the fastener and is of a length to extend across at least two adjacent crests and is preferably spaced from the lead threads. The locking member operates as a wedge to cause an increase in the friction between the mating threads opposite the position of the locking element. Various forms of locking elements may be used, such as plastic or metal. Various configurations are disclosed as well as a relatively simple method to make the fastener.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1984Date of Patent: July 2, 1991Assignee: Long-Lok Fasteners CorporationInventors: Terry J. Rowley, James Bowman
