Patent number: 8721876Abstract: An apparatus for treating water stored in a reservoir to remove contaminants has a feed line for receiving water and a by-pass valve that controls the flow of water through the feed line. A venturi valve responds to the rate of flow of water through a flow line by creating a vacuum in a supply line from an ozone generator, the extent of the vacuum created being dependent on the rate of flow, to add ozone at a controlled rate to the water to be treated. A sensor probe measures the oxidation reduction potential of the water, to supply hydrogen peroxide to the water at a controlled rate dependent on the oxidation reduction potential level. The ozone and the hydrogen peroxide are mixed with the water in a multicyclone unit to allow a peroxone reaction to occur that treats the water, and the treated water is returned to the reservoir.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2012Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: Waterco LimitedInventor: Nicholas James Briscoe

Publication number: 20080224446Abstract: One embodiment of a custom extruded tube, 30 inches in length with a ¾ inch slit the entire length. This single piece making up this device is specifically designed for the application of attaching a goose neck trailer to a truck. The material is rubberized plastic with an integral reflective yellow pigment added in the extrusion process for superior visibility. The material of the tube allows for it to be used over and over without stretching or breaking. The interior diameter measurement is 2.312 inches and the outer diameter measurement is 2.512 inches. It is designed to fit snuggly over a 2 5/16 Gooseneck ball.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 5, 2007Publication date: September 18, 2008Inventor: James Briscoe King

Patent number: 7393686Abstract: This invention provides a method of converting a stem cell into a ventral neuron which comprises introducing into the stem cell a nucleic acid which expresses homeodomain transcription factor Nkx6.1 protein in the stem cell so as to thereby convert the stem cell into the ventral neuron. Provided are methods of diagnosing a motor neuron degenerative disease in a subject. Also provides is a method of treating neuronal degeneration in a subject which comprises implanting in diseased neural tissue of the subject a neural stem cell which comprises an isolated nucleic acid molecule which is capable of expressing homeodomain Nkx6.1 protein under conditions such that the stem cell is converted into a motor neuron after implantation, thereby treating neuronal degeneration in the subject.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2000Date of Patent: July 1, 2008Assignees: Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York, The Regents of the University of CaliforniaInventors: Thomas M. Jessell, James Briscoe, Johan Ericson, John L. R. Rubenstein, Maike Sander

Patent number: 4865291Abstract: An airfoil deicer and method for deicing an airfoil wherein the deicer has an outer skin having an elevated modulus of elasticity and a means for introducing a small deflection into the outer skin thereby creating substantial chord-wise tension in the outer skin, the deflection being induced in less than 0.250 seconds. In the method of deicing, the deflection is induced periodically and being completed within a time span of about 0.250 seconds to remove accumulations of ice as thin as 0.06 centimeters.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1988Date of Patent: September 12, 1989Assignee: The B. F. Goodrich CompanyInventors: James A. Briscoe, James C. Putt, Ronald W. Phillips, II

Patent number: 4836474Abstract: A de-icer for de-icing those ice accreting surfaces of a skin formed of a material having a substantially elevated modulus, wherein the de-icer is positioned between a support surface and a surface of the skin obverse to the ice accreting surface and inflated to produce a deformation in the skin sufficient to detach and dislodge accumulations of ice on the ice accreting surface but insufficient to exceed an endurance limit for the material from which the skin is formed. The invention finds use in de-icing aircraft surfaces such as wings, tail surfaces, propellers, rotors such as rotating wings, tail rotors and nose cones.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1987Date of Patent: June 6, 1989Assignee: The B.
