  • Publication number: 20160263354
Abstract: A hybrid wire guide is comprised of a distal segment of nitinol wire welded to a proximal segment of stainless steel wire. The stainless steel wire includes a flex transition segment that terminates at the weld, and defines a plurality of flexibility enhancing voids distributed in a pattern along a centerline so that a flexibility of the flex transition segment changes toward a match of a flexibility of the nitinol wire over a tracking segment that extends distally from the weld. The respective shapes of the flexibility enhancing voids change responsive to the flexure of the flex transition segment away from a straight configuration.

  • Publication number: 20160135827
Abstract: A wire guide which may be used to cross a lesion through the subintimal layer of an intraluminal passage. The wire guide comprises an inner elongated member with a larger diameter proximal portion, a smaller diameter distal portion, and a tapered portion transitioning between the larger and smaller diameters. An outer shell surrounds the inner elongated member. The wire guide may be used to cross a lesion in an intraluminal passage through the subintimal layer while minimizing the portion of the wire guide which deflects against the proximal end of the lesion. Once the wire guide has crossed the intraluminal passage, it may be straightened so devices may be advanced to the lesion over the wire guide and used to clear the intraluminal passage.

  • Patent number: 9108026
Abstract: A spring action medical device includes a spring that may propel a hammer component in a distal direction when the spring is released from a loaded state. When propelled forward by the spring, the hammer component makes contact with a distal tip of the medical device. The distal tip may then transfer a force to an external object, such as an occlusion in a body lumen.

  • Patent number: 8360995
Abstract: The present invention provides a wire guide (20) suitable for use in a body vessel, such as a peripheral vessel. The wire guide comprises a core member (22) and a first coiled member (40), each having proximal and distal ends. In one embodiment, the core member comprises at least one recessed portion (36), wherein the proximal end of the first coiled member is seated at least partially within the recessed portion to form a substantially flush exterior surface with the core member. The wire guide further preferably comprises a second coiled member (50) having proximal and distal ends, wherein the second coiled member is disposed distal to the first coiled member. The distal end of the first coiled member may be partially intertwined with the proximal end of. the second coiled member. • Publication number: 20110160680
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a medical surgical device and specifically a wire guide for percutaneous placement within a body lumen. The wire guide includes an elongated mandrel having sufficient flexibility and kink resistance and a cannula having a stiffness greater than the mandrel stiffness for sufficient pushability. The mandrel extends through the cannula and has a portion extending distal thereto to form a distal tip of the wire guide. The wire guide can further include a slotted cannula to improve the flexibility of the wire guide at the proximal portion of the wire guide. The slots can be arranged in various patterns for increased flexibility along the longitudinal length of the cannula, as well as increased circumferential flexibility along the wire guide. The mandrel may also have a proximally tapered portion to improve the flexibility of the wire guide at the proximal portion of the wire guide.

  • Publication number: 20090100927
Abstract: A multi-contact sensor connector for use with an instrument adapted to handle a sensor pack containing sensors. The sensors have a plurality of electrical contacts. The connector comprises a test sensor support frame, a printed circuit board connector surface, a plurality of contacts, and a contact holder. The support frame forms an opening therethrough to allow a test sensor to pass through. The support frame has an inclined surface region adapted to guide a test sensor into the opening and a generally horizontal surface region adapted to support the test sensor in the opening. The contacts interact with the electrical contacts. The contacts are positioned to secure the test sensor between the contacts and the horizontal surface region. The contacts are compressed by the support frame and are fixed relative to the printed circuit board connector surface. The contact holder is adapted to retain the contacts and to electrically isolate the respective contacts from one another.

  • Publication number: 20080306453
Abstract: A coupling wire guide and an improved method for bonding a mandrel to a tracking tip in a reliable and long-lasting manner are provided. The coupling wire guide includes a mandrel connected to a tracking tip. The mandrel includes a distal portion, including first and second portions integral to the mandrel, the second portion being wider than the first portion. The tracking tip includes a first tubular section and a second tubular section adapted to receive a previously introduced wire guide therein. The first tubular section is disposed over and bonded to the first and second portions to form the coupling wire guide. A coil may be attached to the distal portion upstream of the second portion. In a preferred embodiment, the second portion is a spherical structure adhesively bonded to the first tubular section. Use of a medical grade adhesive in conjunction with the second portion has been surprisingly found to increase tensile joint strength and decrease tensile joint strength variability.
