  • Patent number: 9758713
Abstract: A hydraulic cementing composition and a method of making the same is disclosed. The composition is useful to form a sheath of hardened cement in the annular space between a well pipe disposed in a well bore and the walls of the well bore. The cementing composition is a mixture of dry ingredients comprising hydraulic cement and an additive to control the loss of fluid from an aqueous slurry containing the cementing composition. The fluid loss additive and a method of making the same is disclosed. The fluid loss additive is the reaction product of three chemical compounds each having an ethylene backbone and functional groups selected from carboxylates, hydrogen, anhydrides and combinations thereof.

  • Patent number: 9611419
Abstract: A hydraulic well cementing composition is disclosed. The well cementing composition contains a hydraulic cement and a fluid loss additive. The fluid loss additive is the polymerization reaction product of a two vinylamide monomers, wherein the polymerization reaction is conducted in the presence of a molecular weight control agent. One of the vinylamide monomers includes a sulfonic acid function, the second vinylamide monomer does not include a sulfonic acid function. The fluid loss additive controls fluid loss at temperatures up to 350° F.

  • Patent number: 9127195
Abstract: A quantity of insoluble solid particles is coated with a hydratable gelling agent to produce a composition comprised of a mass of discrete solid particles which is dry and flowable. The composition is made by placing a binder on the insoluble solid particles and then, while the binder is sticky, placing a hydratable gelling agent on the sticky binder to thereby form the composition. The hydratable gelling agent on the composition, upon contact with an aqueous liquid, operates to increase the viscosity of the aqueous liquid.

  • Patent number: 8273406
Abstract: This invention provides a process for coating particulate solids with a curable novolac resin without employing heat as a step of the process, comprising placing an epoxy resin which is curing on the particulate followed by placing a novolac resin capable of being heat cured on the epoxy resin before curing of the epoxy resin is complete.
