  • Patent number: 8750493
Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the present invention is directed toward a method and system for cancelling line echo in the presence of a known secondary audio signal. Filter adaptation is enabled in the presence of a known secondary audio source such as the sound of a computer game, a music signal or other secondary audio sources that would otherwise prevent echo cancellation due to an apparent double talk condition. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract which will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. It is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or the meaning of the claims.

  • Patent number: 8718091
Abstract: A method and system of processing sampled voice packets from a voice packet sender for transmission over a bit-rate sampled data transmission system, such as by a cable modem over a cable modem termination system, to a voice packet recipient. Unsolicited grant arrivals in response to a request from the voice packet sender coupled to the cable modem are determined. The storing of sampled voice packets is synchronized with the unsolicited grant arrivals. Upon receipt of an unsolicited grant arrival, currently stored sampled voice packets are transmitted to the cable modem for further transmission to the voice packet recipient over the cable modem termination system.

  • Patent number: 7190704
Abstract: A method for communicating information is disclosed wherein a time slot is allocated in a time division multiple access system for a transmission from a subscriber to a headend. Synchronization of a clock of the subscriber with respect to a clock of the headend is enhanced using a message transmitted from the headend to the subscriber which is indicative of an error in a subscriber transmission time with respect to the time slot. A feedback loop process is used to determine at least one of fractional symbol timing correction and carrier phase correction of a transmission from the subscriber to the headend. Filter coefficients are generated at the headend from a ranging signal transmitted from the subscriber to the headend and transmitting the filter coefficients from the headend to the subscriber, the filter coefficients being used by the subscriber to compensate for noise in a transmission from the subscriber to the headend.

  • Patent number: 5598468
Abstract: A signal processor for, e.g., a telephonic communication system interconnecting a near location and at least one far location includes an echo canceller for suppressing the re-transmission of received signals. The operation of the echo canceller is controlled according to whether the near location is transmitting or receiving, and whether the far location is transmitting or receiving. The signal processor includes means for detecting doubletalk, and for controlling the echo canceller in response to the detection of doubletalk, such that doubletalk is permitted. In one method of operation, a delay is applied to the inputs to the echo canceller from the near and far ends, such that each of these signals is used for determining the operating state of the echo canceller before being used to operate an adaptive filter of the echo canceller. In another method of operation, doubletalk detection is carried out, in part, by evaluating the performance of an auxiliary adaptive filter.

  • Patent number: 5329587
Abstract: A subband adaptive filter is disclosed that retains the computational and convergence speed advantages of subband processing while eliminating delay in the signal path. The technique has applications in active noise control where delay seriously limits cancellation performance and in acoustic echo cancellation where transmission delay specifications may limit the use of conventional subband designs. A reference signal and a residual error signal are each decomposed into a plurality of subband signals, and a set of adaptive weighting coefficients is generated for each of these subbands by a conventional complex LMS (least-mean-squared) technique. These sets of subband weighting coefficients are then transformed into the frequency domain, appropriately stacked and inverse transformed back into the time domain to obtain wideband filter coefficients for a programmable filter.
