  • Patent number: 11923704
Abstract: A computer implemented method includes accessing a first status of a first battery pack interface coupled to a load via a first load switch and accessing a second status of a second battery pack interface coupled to the load via a second load switch. The first status and the second status are compared and the first and second load switches are controlled based on the comparing to balance remaining capacities of the first and second battery packs.

  • Patent number: 11914093
Abstract: A method for human movement classification includes a plurality of radio frequency (RF) antennas to expose a body surface of a human user to an E-field, at least a part of the human user positioned within a near-field region relative to the RF antennas. The plurality of RF antennas are scanned to determine ground-relative changes in electrical conditions. A differential-scanning subset of RF antennas are selected, including two or more RF antennas for which the changes in electrical conditions exceed a threshold. For each RF antenna in the differential-scanning subset, a set of antenna-relative changes in electrical conditions are determined by comparing the RF antenna to one or more other RF antennas in the differential-scanning subset as a plurality of pairs. Based at least in part on the ground-relative changes in electrical conditions and the antenna-relative changes in electrical conditions, a movement performed by the human user is classified.

  • Publication number: 20160078824
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for powering display light sources. A display can include a DC/DC converter included in a power management integrated circuit (PMIC) to serve as the light source driver. Battery current drawn by the DC/DC converter can be smoothed, in part, by introducing a capacitor in parallel with the set of light sources. A display controller can control the DC/DC converter to output a substantially constant current for substantially the entirety of a time period for displaying a set of subframes, storing enough charge on the capacitor to support the current drawn through the light sources by a digital-to-analog converter included in the PMIC. Output current level for the DC/DC converter can be determined for the time period over which the subframes are displayed. The set of subframes can include subframes of a single image frame, or of one or more image frames.

  • Publication number: 20140146088
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for providing a compact, low-sensor count scanning display that is capable of both displaying graphical content and of capturing images of objects placed on or above the scanning display. Various implementations are discussed, including raster scan, line scan, and compressive sampling version.

  • Publication number: 20140009340
Abstract: Processing associated with ranging operations is shifted from a first apparatus to a second apparatus. For example, upon sampling a received ranging signal (e.g., a pulse) from the second apparatus, the first apparatus does not process the ranging signal to identify a relatively precise time of arrival estimate. Instead, the first apparatus sends sample data (e.g., representative of the power and/or magnitude of the received signal) and associated timestamp information to the second apparatus. The second apparatus processes the received sample data and timestamp information to determine the time of arrival estimate on behalf of the first apparatus. The second apparatus then uses this time of arrival estimate to determine the distance between the apparatuses.

  • Publication number: 20130211780
Abstract: Apparatus and method to determine a distance to a second apparatus that is movable. The apparatus and method may detect a range request transmitted between a third apparatus and the second apparatus, wherein the third apparatus is geographically fixed, detect a range response transmitted between the second apparatus and the third apparatus in response to the range request, and determine the distance to the second apparatus based on the detected range request and range response at the apparatus.

In one aspect, an apparatus can include a natural light collection system, an artificial light collection system, an illumination panel, and a control system. The illumination panel can be optically coupled to the natural light collection system and the artificial light collection system to receive natural and artificial light. The control system can be coupled to the artificial light system and can be configured to control the artificial light system.

  • Patent number: 6661631
Abstract: Current drawn by the fingerprint sensor subject to electrostatic discharge events not fully dissipated by a pad ring is monitored. Upon detection of an overcurrent (e.g., an increase in the current drawn by approximately an order of magnitude) indicating that a latchup condition has occurred, power is removed from the sensor, together with all inputs to the sensor, until the latchup condition is cleared. If a processor or controller is employed by the sensor, the processor or controller is concurrently reset since a firmware crash may be induced by the latchup condition. If a parallel port or other communications connection is employed by the sensor, the overcurrent signal is employed to directly disconnect power and input signals to the sensor.

  • Patent number: 6288521
Abstract: An electronic device battery pack for a battery requiring cycling to prolong lifetime is divided into at least two parallel cells for which the charging state is automatically maintained. When external power is available and one or more cells is substantially discharged, the substantially discharged cell(s) are selected one at a time to be fully drained and recharged. A partially discharged but not substantially discharged cell will be left in that state until use of the electronic device has substantially discharged the cell. Once a cell has been recharged, the next substantially discharged cell is drained and recharged, and so on until all cells are fully charged. If the charging of a cell is interrupted by removal of the external power, another cell is utilized to provide power to the electronic device and recharging is resumed once the external power is restored.
